Southern Spain in Feb - alternative type of vibe?

We're off to Spain with 2DC's in Feb. One week in half term and one week after. We've sorted a hotel for half term week and are happy for this to be more mainstream. We're looking for ideas for the second week and fancy a holiday of 2 halves.
We're flying in and out of Malaga. Don't want to end up in a half shut up urbanisation and fancy trying something different.
Trawling air b and b it's hard to find / esrablish what's what. Nerja, Almeria?
Any advice please??? (Time's running out!)

Nerja is beautiful. Also Grenada.

Do you think you would need a car in / around Nerja? Any other tips greatly appreciated

We had a car as drove from Malaga to Granada for 3 nights then to Nerja for 4 but it’s so able without.

The food in both is amazing. If you want to visit the palace in Granada book now.

It’s a beautiful place, I was thee in July and there was still snow on the mountains.

We stayed in Villa Flamenca in Nerja which was perfect and amazing value.

You could go the other way - westwards? I haven’t been but I’ve always fancied Tarifa - windswept horseriding and kitesurfing on the beach! We nearly booked the Hurricane Hotel one Feb half-term. If you are going outside of school hols you could hopefully book. Lots of options on airbnb too. Cadiz is a little further on from there too - stay there or maybe a day trip?

Tarifa looks amazing. Wondering whether it migjt be cooler / windy in Feb though. Average temp 2 degrees cooler than Malaga and thinking it's prob windy as it's a big windsurfing place.

We've been to Grenada before (pre kids, loved it) but again was wondering with it being high if the temp would be significantly cooler?
Wondering if Almeria is worth visiting?
