Travel Insurance

It's that time of year again and time to sort out annual travel insurance.

Need decent, cheap travel insurance for me, DH and 5yo DD. No medical conditions. Short haul only in next 12 months AFAIK. Just need simple travel insurance to cover us all.

Any recommendations?

We opened a new bank account last week that included travel insurance. Not sure about medical insurance though.

Hulababy · 01/07/2007 12:02

Don't need new bank account or credit cards or anything. Just want straight forward travel insurance.

Sorry, I was just teling you about ours.

We did need a new bank account though.

have a look on moneysavingexpert or gm.tv because martin lewis was talking about this on breakfast tv last week.

Think ours is Royal Bank of Scotland (dh gets it through work) , probably similar to Direct Line. About £70 Europe for 4 of us (I think) incl wintersports.

Hulababy · 01/07/2007 12:06

No worries unconfident. My response was probably a bit short, didn't mean it like that though.

On moneysavingexpert now.

Just realised that if we go away start of school holidays next summer, we may go longhaul, so need worldwide just in case.

Money Saving Expert} links to This one at just £45 for the 3 of us, for the year. Does it look ok do you reckon?

I got my annual one from Asda, wasn't that cheap tbh?

LIZS · 01/07/2007 12:16

Check terms and conditions as it doesn't specify excess for loss of possessions or repatriation costs.

Hulababy · 01/07/2007 12:40

From past experience loss of possessions on holiday is covered on household contents insurance. Or at least my camera was when it was stolen on holiday.

Just checking rest.

Excess is £65 for personal possessions and cash, and almost everything else TBH.

£250 excess for the rented accomodation damage.

Arghh - because I have been referred to a specialist and waiting for an op (non serious, etc) I have to phone in advance. I know it won't be covered - not needed anyway - but what a pain!

  1. Trips outside the United Kingdom, but including the Channel Islands when they are your trip destination
(a) up to £5,000,000 in total for reasonable: (i) fees or charges to be paid outside your home country for medical, surgical, hospital nursing home or nursing services. (ii) additional travel, accommodation and repatriation costs to be made for or by you and for any one other person who is required for medical reasons to stay with you, to travel to you from within the United Kingdom or to travel with you. (iii) charges following your death outside your home country for your burial or cremation in the locality where your death occurs

Looks like it does cover repatriation

Any more advice?

I started thinking about travel insurance last week. The cheaper policies wouldn't cover DD's asthma (and I want to definitely be covered for this, given that we are going to the US).

I ended up going through Axa-PPP, who do our private medical insurance, and got a very comprehensive annual policy for the seven of us for £200. It also covers DH on business trips (unlike the cheaper ones), and everyone is insured separately (so DS1 is covered while he is in Iceland this week).

Overall, I was really pleased. The other quote I had was a single trip policy for £240, so was relieved that she didn't quote an outrageous amount.
