Areas around Dubrovnik

I’m looking at various hotels, all of which seem to be between 5 and 10KM from Dubrovnik. All look lovely with coastal views etc and apparently easy transport to the old town. I like the thought of doing it this way as we can then visit Dubrovnik later In when the cruise ships have gone.

Does anyone know much about the different areas -Cavtat, Lapad, Babin Kuk etc - and can recommend what is best as I have no idea!

Thanks for any help

We stayed in Cavtat in the summer of 2017. It was lovely. A great little town that we walked down to to eat, we went scuba diving from a local base, we used the water taxi to go into Dubrovnik for a day out etc.

I can't recommend it highly enough.

That sounds pretty much what I fancy (maybe not scuba diving though!)

We stayed at The Royal Princess hotel in Lapad last May which I would recommend. There is a lovely coastal path from the hotel to a beach area with lots of restaurants, and a cave bar set into the cliff (the More hotel I think). It was a 10 minute Uber ride to the old town. We really liked staying a short distance away from the Old Town. There is a website that tells you how many cruise ships are docking each day so you can judge the best day/time to visit the Old Town.

I stayed at Hotel Neptun on Babin Kuk. Good location as at start of bus route so you can get a seat when going into Dubrovnik. Part of a complex of 4/5 hotels so you can use facilities of them all. Branded as Importanne hotels. Be aware that it is not a cheap destination; food and drink expensive last year, in town and in hotels, but it's a gorgeous place. Few supermarkets around to stock up on drinks/snacks etc, though.

I second Cavtat, well I went in 2011 so don't know if it's changed since then. We stayed in the large Hotel Croatia but there are plenty of options in the town. There are some nice walks and bars and restaurants, but a lot quieter than Dubrovnik. You can get a water taxi or the bus to and from Dubrovnik

We stayed in Lapad (on the side facing the Port so we could watch the cruise ships coming & going!) it was lovely & not too busy. There was a bus straight into the old town & plenty of restaurants.

We did a day trip to Cavtat & that was a beautiful little place too.
