Turkey - is 5 star essential??

My friend said she'd only ever go 5 star to Turkey. Has anyone been 4 / 5 star and noticed much of a difference? Trying to keep the price down for 2 adults and 1 child AI in July.

We’ve been to a TUI Sensatori in Turkey and that was brilliant.

PlaymobilPirate · 19/01/2019 10:44

Is that 4 or 5 star? I'm not being a star dick. We usually go 4 star in Gran Canaria or similar (I say usually, we've been twice! ;)

Just wondered in 5 star in turkey = 4 star elsewhere

I’ve been to that one too. Twice in fact. . It’s lovely. I think that’s 5 and would say it’s the same as 5 stars elsewhere . I’ve stayed in 4 in other countries and they were nowhere near as nice

When we visited turkey (I admit it was like 8 years ago) we stayed in a 4*+. The one thing I notice about Turkish hotels are they are very very nice so I think whether you went 4 or 5 star you'll get a lovely hotel! Look into the reviews and ignore your friends comment! Their opinion doesn't justify whether you'll have a good holiday or not does it, I find it's what you make of it.

BigusBumus · 22/01/2019 13:13

We went to the Lykia World 5* in Olu Deniz and I hated it. Not a patch on other AI we have been to in other countries. Felt very 3 star and absolutely mobbed out with very rude, pushy, shouty Russians. Never again.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 22/01/2019 13:22

Personally I wouldn't go AI in Turkey at all. It is very cheap to eat out and you get a much better experience by being out and about rather than being stuck in a hotel. You will get a much better deal that way too.
Which part of Turkey were you thinking of going to?

Jackshouse · 22/01/2019 13:23

Star ratings are based on things like does it have a conference room and a hairdressers. Unless these are things you need I would be more concerned about the facilities you need and the trip advisor rating and comments.

StateofIndependance · 22/01/2019 13:37

The amount of Russians in Turkish hotels would put me off I'm afraid. The culture is very different to ours in terms of queuing and supervising children and being in close quarters in an AI hotel for a week is just stressful.

ToothlessReg · 24/01/2019 12:27

Agree with sootica - don't go AI!

I’ve always stayed in small hotels or apartments in Turkey and had a brilliant time. Turkish food is delicious and cheap, and the people are so friendly.

magimedi · 24/01/2019 14:01

Also agree with sootica. I've been going to Turkey for years & always stay in small independent hotels, breakfast only & go out to eat. The food is so good & so cheap.

Sootica have just booked a holiday to G - again!!

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 25/01/2019 12:29

We are booking to go back soon too :)

dryskinfeethorror · 25/01/2019 13:10

Yes I agree wth above we went AI to hotel Vera in bodrum, ended up going out every evening because the food was awful. The kids wouldn't drink the soft drinks .
Bodrum was absolutely lovely, though and the restaurants were fabulous and as others have said very reasonable

jocktamsonsbairn · 10/02/2019 01:10

Our 4 star in Marmaris was good in parts - reception looked good. Our room that we had to pay to upgrade to was good. Pre ious room was a hellhole, food was crap, lots of pissed up Brits at start of the week then full of pissed up Brits and Russians second part of our week and fights started in evening. Lots of drunk people getting tattoos. Lots of fake Gucci sliders... Not my kind of place at all but lots of people obviously like it! We went to the gravelly beach a few times and ate out as food wasn't great. Won't go back.

Articulateforme · 12/04/2019 16:14

I'm coming back to this thread ridiculously late - still not booked and still considering Turkey if anyone has more recommendations!?

NowIKnowHowJoanFelt · 12/04/2019 16:16

We did 4 star a few years ago and it was fabulous.. also a bargain at £500 each for 2 weeks all inclusive.

dontknowwasmadetoknow · 14/04/2019 08:33

Have a look at the Hilton Dalaman resort in Saregerme it's on our list.

Articulateforme · 14/04/2019 11:35

Thanks Don't I've just looked. It's £5k which is way over our budget! Looks amazing though

Witchofzog · 14/04/2019 17:04

I would third not going ai. I have done both in Turkey and even though the food in the 5 star was lovely, it did get a bit samey. The best one I went to believe it or not was a 2 star. It had great reviews on trip advisor and we ended up with a 2 balcony apartment with a pool on the outskirts of town so quiet but within walking distance to everything. It was spotlessly clean and we loved trying different places to eat.

My advice is don't focus on the stars but on customer reviews and you won't be disappointed

dontknowwasmadetoknow · 14/04/2019 17:40

Ok pity the Hilton is out of budget but have a look at Limak Arcadia that's in Belek we had a cheapish week there in school holidays a couple of years ago it's a really nice hotel.
