Anyone booked a post Brexit holiday?

We are flying out to Tenerife (hopefully) on the 30th March, the day after brexit! We booked this ages ago with a travel agent so we are fully insured should something go wrong!
I have read conflicting reviews that there is a contingency plans to continue to allow flights to the EU post brexit. I have also heard all planes could be grounded. I'm not massively knowledgeable on the whole thing so was just wondering what other people's views were?

Xx

Flying to NZ on 30/03. Not worried but will go to airport early to be on the safe side if it looks like there might be problems.

FrangipaniBlue · 16/01/2019 21:41

Yep 3!

  1. May 2019 within UK but not the mainland
  2. August 2019 within Europe
  3. October 2020 long haul outside EU

All involving flights but I can't get worked up about it tbh

cest la vie

@grimupnorthlondon

I thought UK/US had been sorted? www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/business-46380463

MsJaneAusten · 17/01/2019 07:24

We’re flying on April 3. I’m worried. Dh is not.

Kikipost · 17/01/2019 08:12

However the company I have spoken to did say that there shouldn't be any interupptions to flights as they already have an agreement to allow flights until 2020 where a new deal will need to be negotiated.

They have point blank misled you there

Costacoffeeplease · 17/01/2019 08:29

Insurance companies stopped covering for brexit related problems last year AFAIK

grimupnorthLondon · 17/01/2019 13:18

Fair point Dolly, but not all airlines that fly the Transatlantic routes are EU owned. The big Gulf carriers or Air India for example are not covered by the agreement.

mama1980 · 17/01/2019 13:34

We are going to France in May, Portugal in September and USA in October. All booked.
I have no worries. Though I did avoid booking Italy in March over the actual Brexit date, we'll be back a week before.

Transport

The Commission has today adopted two measures that will avoid full interruption of air traffic between the EU and the UK in the event of no deal. These measures will only ensure basic connectivity and in no means replicate the significant advantages of membership of the Single European Sky. This is subject to the UK conferring equivalent rights to EU air carriers, as well as the UK ensuring conditions of fair competition.

A proposal for a Regulation to ensure temporarily (for 12 months) the provision of certain air services between the UK and the EU.
A proposal for a Regulation to extend temporarily (for 9 months) the validity of certain aviation safety licences.
The Commission has also adopted a proposal for a Regulation to allow UK operators to temporarily (nine months) carry goods into the EU, provided the UK confers equivalent rights to EU road haulage operators and subject to fair competition conditions.
europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-18-6851_en.htm

We may or may not have conferred equal rights.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 17/01/2019 13:45

We are going to Turkey at the end of July :)

DollyWilde · 17/01/2019 19:29

@grimupnorthlondon

Sorry, you’re entirely right - I must have got a bit carried away, we’re off the US with Virgin on April 4th (our honeymoon!) so in my excitement I’d forgotten it wasn’t a blanket agreement Blush

grimupnorthLondon · 18/01/2019 16:24

Congratulations Dolly! Hope you have a brilliant trip x

ihatethecold · 18/01/2019 17:39

Mexico on the 5th of April with Tui, they have a Brexit statement on their website which states they will refund fully if we are not able to go due to Brexit.
I also used my credit card to pay and we have travel insurance. As long as I get a refund I'm not too worried if we can't go.

FortyFacedFuckers · 18/01/2019 17:42

Booked to go to the canaries on 6th April and the 29th June definitely concerned especially April one

PenguinPandas · 19/01/2019 13:44

We have booked but for August and not concerned for flights. Would make sure you have 6 months on passport though. Did get cheap Ryanair flights initially and hotels are cancellable so not much at risk.

DollyWilde · 19/01/2019 13:46

@grimupnorthlondon Thanks! I think I must have been in a wedding planning haze when we booked it though - I’d completely forgotten about Brexit day when we picked the date. Tbh I wouldn’t have done it by choice if I’d had my right head on, I’m not entirely sure how I managed to just forget Brexit....

Cornishclio · 19/01/2019 14:23

No I won't book overseas holidays until I know what is happening re deal or no deal and if contingencies are in place if no deal. Better safe than sorry so this year we are sticking with UK holidays

Tortycat · 22/01/2019 23:45

is anyone bothered about exchange rates? just wondering if the £ tanks then holidays will cost an awful lot more when actuslly abroad? but then might prices of the holiday itself rise after brexit if booked after march?

Ta1kinPeace · 23/01/2019 20:17

Exchange rates are the least of the worries.

THe UK economy has enough innards that the vultures will stop the fall if the £ goes much below the $

but the long term damage of being below parity
is something our children will never forgive us for

Arcadia · 23/01/2019 20:23

No. One. Knows.

CottonSock · 23/01/2019 20:27

I'm flying to Spain 14 April. Not really worried, but not expecting that insurance would cover any issues

Arcadia · 23/01/2019 20:29

This is actually quite helpful
