My ds was in hospital for his 3rd birthday so we delayed having his birthday party until tomorrow. It was going to be at a local soft play area with party food provided as our house is a bit of a building site.
We have just been rung to say that the play area has a broken pipe and is flooded and the party is cancelled!
I have left messages for all the invitees but I need to pick up ds from nursery soon and tell him his party won't be happening tomorrow.

Please please, can someone recommend a fabulous day out that I can take ds on tomorrow to make up for not having a party?
(We live in West London)

Oh bluenear; that horrid for you all. Poor ds

I don't know the area but some things - zoo, Legoland, Chessington, Thorpe Park, museums in the city, picnic in the park with some selected friends (good weather predicted)...

can you make it round to Junction 22 on the M25 and go to Willows Farm. The weather report is good for this weekend apparently and Willows Farm really is a terrific day out for children of all ages (my son is 3 and he is the biggest fan).
I can list what it offeres or you can take a look on the website www.willowsfarmvillage.com.

I would tell him that there was a broken pipe but because of the inconvenience he has been granted an extra birthday wish from X options:

  • A day at the zoo
  • A day at the aquarium
  • A day at the park
  • A trip to a toy shop with some money allowance for toys

And the choice of inviting one of his friends

Good idea Twiglett - N H museum would mean a ride on the train too.

Was looking at legoland but other thread said there are long queues for rides (are the rides suitable for 3 year olds or could we ignore them anyway?)

Maybe I'll give him a choice between visiting the dinosaurs or the sharks!

If weather is as good as today, picnic and the Princess Diana Memorial playground. Took ds1 (age 3) there last week. Take some towels for drying feet off (there's a water fountain for cleaning off feet after playing in the sand. The pirate ship is lovely.

Have you tried Snakes and Ladders indoor play area in Syon Park? They have parties there, but you can obviously just turn up. Otherwise, what about Whipsnade Zoo? I saw a photo in the paper today of a baby elephant having a bath, which looked so cute. I hope your DS has a lovely birthday despite the set-backs.

Battersea park - children's zoo with pony rides (ds got a free one on his 2nd birthday!), cafe, boat trip...ice cream...

Thanks everyone, I have to go and get him now so I'm giving him a choice between dinosaurs, sharks, racing sheep ( lovely website mckenzie), or Lego.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions - you've turned me from a crying panic-stricken mum into a mum with a plan and a smile (just)

If he does choose Willows Farm Bluebear, don't miss the 'dogs and ducks' - great to watch.
