Tenerife in February - or Lanzarote?

Hi all, we are thinking of booking a short 4 day self catering break in the canary islands this Feb Half term. Will Tenerife or Lanzarote be warm enough for us to be in an outside pool do you think? Open to other suggestions also, just want easy relaxing holiday and don't mind if it's a bit colder in the evenings. Thanks!

It should be - we've swum outdoors in Lanzarote at new year - but it does depend on whether the pool is heated or not. You definitely want heated in winter (or at any time tbh). I haven't been to Tenerife, but it's one of the two busier and more built up Canary islands. Lanzarote is quieter and more unspoilt, but the landscape is mostly black and very volcanic. I liked it and found it dramatic and other-worldly, but not everyone does.

As long as it's a heated pool either place should be fine, though February can be cloudy / rainy. I've been to both many times in Jan and Feb and had warm sunny weather. I once had a full week of cool cloudy weather so four days is a bit risky

We had a week in Lanzarote last February. The weather was ok. Didn't rain but pretty cloudy and windy at times. Certainly not hot but warm enough and we swam in the villa pool (although fiddled with the thermostat to turn it up!). Managed to eat out at night sat near patio heaters which are everywhere. This was Playa Blanca, nice resort.

South side of Tenerife is definitely the warmer and more reliable option weather wise. I’d suggest the SW corner (costa adeje) or even further to the west (la caleta, los gigantes) - not the southern resorts (las americas).

Did you decide op? We're going to tenerife for 4 days in Oct. Recommended by travel agent to go for low rise hotel / apartment so that the sun doesn't cast a shadow across the pool and make it cooler.
We've swam in pools in feb in tenerife.

DippyDuck123 · 25/01/2019 17:39

Both are good-

I'd choose Playa Blanca for Lanzarote and Playa de las Americas/Los Cristianos/Costa Adeje in Tenerife.

As PP says look for a heated/acclimatised pool but be aware this does not mean warm!

We did feb half term a few years ago. Kids used the pool. But the windy drove me nuts.

AnyFucker · 28/01/2019 20:30

Cptart, I was in PB last Feb! (I go twice a year...love the place)

We must have had different weeks our weather was fab once it warmed up about 11am

verliec · 30/01/2019 23:53

Wouldn’t go for either of these ,having tried both several times at different times of the year . Lanzarote is too windy and Tenerife too cloudy . Are preferred choice is the south in Gran Canaria, climate is much better .

YouveCatToBeKittenMe · 30/01/2019 23:58

I’m in Tenerife atm. It’s warm, 21degrees today but cloudy, but has been really hot and sunny for the last few days and is forecast sunny and 24ish next week
Haven’t been in the outdoor pool thou!
We’re in the sw of the island (Adeje)

legolimb · 31/01/2019 00:05

I've visited all four of the main islands in Feb half term over the years with varying levels of sunshine/wind/rain even.

The weather isn't guaranteed to be fabulous but chances are it'll be fine enough.

I love Tenerife but tend to go north now. It's renowned for being not as warm and sunny as the south but usually wevevbeen able to sunbathe (and swim if feeling hardy).

Many hotels have heated pools but they aren't always all that warm. Kids don't seem to care though.

If you're only there for four days ivwould suggest staying in a resort not too far from the airport such as los Christianos or Costa Adeje.

millimat · 02/02/2019 19:55

OK so we're off to tenerife next week. Staying in golf del sur which I've not been to for years. Where can you recommend in restaurants? We've got a car so can drive anywhere.

Kikipost · 02/02/2019 19:59

I just take take the risk
So taking my two to the Caribbean for 7 nights. 28 degrees and unbroken sun
Is further afield an option?

Kikipost · 02/02/2019 19:59

I just can’t take the risk**

lanbro · 02/02/2019 20:00

I've just come back from Tenerife, was mixed weather, quite a lot of cloud but dry and warm. The pool was freezing but the dc were in every day! It was very cool in the evenings but I've come home with a decent tan - we were chuckling at the locals in hats and scarves whilst we were in t-shirts tho!

Mummyshark2018 · 02/02/2019 20:17

Is chose Tenerife over lanz, as when I've been to both lanz has been much windier but it might have just been the time of year I've been.

millimat · 02/02/2019 20:34

I agree that lanzarote is windier
