Yes. We enjoyed it but found the temples were rather busy and there was much more hawking than in Vietnam. Much preferred Vietnam, as it felt less touristy.

thanks golden ruby. we have been to Vietnam so wanted to try somewhere new; your comments are helpful

have been to Cambodia several times, but not in August which can be a bit wet weather wise.
Java, Bali or Malaysian Borneo have better weather in July and August - central Vietnam is also dry then, but you have already been there, but if you have not been to Hue and Hoi An would recommend both.

thanks for the comments

We did Cambodia in August last year. It rained for 1 day but the rest of the time it was just (very) hot and humid. The biggest difference that we found vs Vietnam was that Cambodia is notably poorer. Its a beautiful country though with lots of historic / cultural sites and very good value hotels and food. With regard to hawkers we actually had more hassle in Hoi An than Cambodia but I guess everyone's experience is different

Not in august. we went at easter.

Be aware that a lot of what there is to see in cambodia (outside of the temples) is quite harrowing.

thank you. cloudtree, i dont think we would attempt the killing fields/prisons - too distressing. for those that have been, we have 15 days, what would you suggest we include?

The killing fields and prison is really worth doing and whilst it’s pretty harrowing, it’s such an important part of life there, I think it helps understand the place a bit more.

I went in August a few years ago. Generally it was hot and sunny in the morning, then heavy rain in the evening. We were only there for a few days and stayed in Siem Reap but I loved it. The people were so friendly and it's a beautiful country. I'd love to have seen more of it.

We hired a guide from our hotel to bring us around the temples which is the best way to do it I think.

We also spent a day in a village in the countryside - that was pretty special. We got to work in the rice paddies, meet and talk to local monks and nuns and have lunch with a local family in their home.

Massages are very cheap so are nice to do after a day traipsing around the temples.

Hi there, we went to Siem reap and Angkor wat in November, so I can't comment on the weather in August. We did a combo holiday, and stayed 3 days, it was cheap to fly there from KL and I felt we saw and experienced a lot in the short trip.

I’ve visited a few times- expect rain, which at absolute worst may disrupt some road travel. The good news is the waterways around the temple will be full and the vegetation lush - I think it looks much more beautiful than in the dry season!

The ton le sap lake will also be full so you’ll be able to travel between siem reap and Phnom Penh by boat, which is a fun experience!

I think 15 days might be a long time unless you’re also going to the beach (they aren’t as nice as Thailand). Have you thought about visiting Laos too? It’s a beautiful, laid back country - I highly recommend Luang Prabang and Vientiane!
