Planning our holiday for this year and was wondering how expensive people have found it and is it worth going? Just doing a city break and not going to hire a car

We went a few years ago and loved it. Did Airbnb in a lovely suburb near a big park, so we didn't eat out much. Transport links are great, we just used public transport. Had a day trip to Sweden. Lovely, clean, family friendly place. Really enjoyed it, as did the kids! Didn't find it too expensive, but maybe that was just because it was cheaper than expected.

No need for a car there Smile
I thought it was expensive, food that is, but it was years ago...

We went a couple of years ago. Public transport is fab and easy to use. If you’re just staying in the city you don’t need a car.

Alcohol is expensive

Went last year and it was fantastic. Food and eating out was a bit pricey but good quality. Easy to get around, loads to do, clean and interesting. I felt quite short and not blond and would love to know where they hide the old people. We'd love to go back. If you have children the aquarium near the airport is fantastic.

Thank you everyone

Dishforchocolate: how much money did you take with you and how long did you go for?

We did a week for 3 and added an extra adult for 4 days. Spent about £1500 but we could easily have spent less. We struggled to cook at the flat we rented as food labels were normally Danish and Swedish and we needed to know if what we bought was dairy free. There are some passes you can buy that may save money depending on what you want to do, some free things too and plenty of open spaces you can picnic etc. If you walk about take bottles from home, buying a bottle of coke etc is pricey.

We went on a girls trip a couple of years ago. Actually didn't find it that pricey as we stayed in an apartment so could buy in Danish pastries for breakfast and bought a Copenhagen card which covered all our transport and sightseeing.
We tended to eat street food which was cheap and fun. Only meal I found very expensive was in Tivoli gardens unsurprisingly.

Wonderful place well worth a visit.

We loved it. It is hellish expensive but you don’t need to cripple yourself iykwim.

We stayed in an old apartment in the student area near the Round Tower. Loads of Netto supermarkets( don’t shop at Irma as pricier than Waitrose). There is a lovely organic stand under the Round Tower and they’re very reasonable, can come with sides like root mash. The company has stands elsewhere in the city.

We ate out once at Riz Raz I think it was. Unlimited veggie buffet and lovely big burgers for the kids. Not too expensive.

I took pasta and cereal, coffee for our stove top coffee maker. Our old apartment had loads of store cupboard basics to use. We used to buy Danish pastries, pizza and massive sandwiches for the day from Saint Peders bakery( oldest bakery in Copenhagen)near our apartment which were pretty reasonable.

Only go to Tivoli once in the evening to see the lights and get the ride passes. The harbour boat company does a deal I think. Trivolinis where we wasted money. Went twice, didn’t get ride passes or the harbour deal. You can recycle your drink cups at Tivoli so do hold on to them as you’ll get money back.

There are no tat shops( only in Tivoli)so you won’t waste your money there.

A trip to Louisiana is a must and you can take a picnic.Went over the bridge to Malmo Sweden but didn’t like the city although we had great meatballs in a lovely old pub,I’d go further into Sweden on that train route to a nicer city. The bridge and journey itself were worth doing, very easy.

Think we did The Cooenhagen Museum with the bog people which wasn’t too expensive and walked everywhere. Boat ride in the harbour is a must do too.

Cheap flights, train to hotel next to Tivoli for the weekend. We traveled round on the hop on/hop off bus & walked. I guess you could hire bicycles, it's a bit like Amsterdam lots of cyclists. Good art museum next to Tivoli.

The stand was a hot dog stand( crucial word). Grin
