Holiday in Germany

Unable to afford what we'd like in Fuertoventura. We're also pretty crap as a family when it's really busy around the pool.
Thinking of a nice glamping site in Germany, something called Langar has popped up on FB but their village looked bleak in the pictures.
Has anyone any suggestions?

I want to go to Germany also but they don't seem to cater for holidays! No B and B , gites, holiday hotels... what to do? Any recommendations?

Megan2018 · 04/01/2019 13:00

We holiday in Germany a lot - I've always found the hotels to be excellent much better than Italy which I loathe

We usually use Homeaway as prefer to self cater in a house or apartment. But for city creaks we just use hotels - the Dorint resort hotels have always been nice.

Been to Germany a few times and had no problem with b&bs, gasthauses. Bigger towns will have tourist information places with lists. Totally random with me motorbiking, no booking ahead. Wandered into a 5star hotel in Dusseldorf got room for 50euro, empty midweek. Great people, dunno about camping, did it once, but I'd just go for it.

The Black Forest is good for tourism. Plenty of spa break/farm stay/nature walk type set ups if any of this appeals to you. Tends to be wood cabin style accommodation, self catered or half board or bistro/restaurant on site.

B&B in German is Gästhaus or Pension.

The German alps in summer can be gorgeous, sunny, healthy, vitality-restoring, and theres all that beautiful alpen food and good air. Also, you’re not far from Munich for day trips. Trains are so easy. Garmisch- Paternkirchen comes to mind. Beautiful town. Look into gasthauses and airBnB. I’ve had successful and great experiences with both in Germany.

Also Berlin! South of Berlin is the Spreewald (Spree Forest) with what I call waterway towns like Luebbenau and Lehde where you travel by canal. I have always wanted to do this because it looks so beautiful!

If you don't mind driving, there's loads of cheap self-catering in the South-East, towards the Czech border. Bit tougher if you want to be in a town or city, but August has some bargains as the trade fairs (Messe) stop for the month.

Do check for local bank holidays as well as for the Land and national ones - last time I was in Bavaria the shops were all shut in the town as we arrived, so had to get a takeaway (which turned up exactly on time to the minute, and was brought up and laid out on our table for us, and was excellent quality - German stereotypes are great on holiday, loads of clean public toilets, etc!)

I've never experienced this side of Germany! Italy, Croatia, Greece? Yes. Germany? No.

SwivelHips · 05/01/2019 21:04

Thank you so much, I'll have a proper check through all the links and recommendations Smile

We go to Germany most summers , usually Bavaria or The Black Forrest (eg Freiburg)
Last August we flew to Nuremberg and stayed in a lovely apartment on a lake.
There are plenty on Airbnb in Bavaria and the hotels are usually pretty good too, I’m a bit baffled why people can’t find good accommodation
Absolutely love it and flights from The UK are cheap

IamFrauBlucher · 05/01/2019 21:18

There are some lovely campsites around Lake Tititisee (I kid you not).

StrumpersPlunkett · 05/01/2019 21:24

We are hoping to head to annesee near Munich next summer

Have always had to search hard for holiday parks in Germany unlike France where there are so many.
We stayed at Ferienpark Tennenbron in Schramberg. Stayed for a week in a winnetou house. Proper German wooden house. Quiet but immaculate site. Fabulous water park 2 minutes walk away heavily discounted.
Lots to do around as long as you have a car.
Europa Park about an hour away & so much better than Disney.
So many lakes to visit with beautiful towns especially Titisee.
Frieberg an hour away.
Villingen-Schwenningen is a great place to visit.
Love Germany.
