Ischia

Hi,
I panicked booked a holiday for next summer and I'm now worrying that I may have made a mistake. I've booked us a few days in Sorrento and then opted to do 6 days on Ischia near the harbour of Forio.

My daughter and I usually do city breaks so this is a change for us but my daughter suggested she'd rather have a few quiet days as well and it seemed such a lovely island. But I'm worried we might be bored!
There is no pool but we seem very close to the beach.

Anybody been?

Thanks,
Lisa

Ischia is beautiful. You won’t regret it.

Forio is amazing. We’ve stayed on Ischia twice and plan to go back. Poseidon Thermal spa is on the beach in Forio and is well worth a visit. We did a split stay in Sorrento and Ischia. In Sorrento, near where you get the ferry to ischia is a restaurant - ask in advance and they’ll set up a table for you so you get the best view of the setting sun - Superb.

Enjoy.

Completely stunning - it was the location for the filming of The Talented Mr Ripley, I think. Very expensive though, so may be worth taking a cold bag and stocking up on delicious things on the mainland before crossing to the island.

It’s lovely. There can sometimes be quite a sulphur smell but nothing to ruin gorgeous location. Have fun !

Beautiful place and totally relaxing.

When you say very expensive I'm worrying a bit as I haven't booked an apartment so we'd be eating out! Guessing we could buy fresh bread and cheese and eat a lot of that!
I don't think room has a fridge. I have to say though the room we got seemed very reasonable compared to Sorrento and is just 5 mins from the harbour.

I guess you just make the most of it all once there.

The ferry journey across from the mainland is longer than you would expect.

It very much caters to Italians and and Germans rather than British tourists - it's beautiful but definitely not Sorrento in terms of the type of food etc on offer.

Definitely try and visit the botonical gardens (La Mortella) whilst you are there even if gardens aren't really your thing. www.lamortella.org/en/

We had our mini-moon in Ischia after having our wedding on Amalfi Coast. It was lovely to get away from the crowd of tourists. As said above, you won't get many Brits/Americans there.

From memory it was easy to get around by bus to different points on the island.

I was spoilt and stayed here:

Their spa is stunning and they have a Michelin starred restaurant there too. Could be worth getting a day spa booked or a meal booked?

Ischia is beautiful! You must visit the Castello at Ischia Porto. The views are stunning. www.ischiareview.com/poseidon-thermal-gardens.html and the Poseidon gardens.

We're looking at going to Ischia too! Does anyone have advice on hotels? Sorry OP - I was about to start a thread but thought I would join yours instead!
