Midweek City Break in July

My DD is going to Spain with her MFL group at school early July. We want to take advantage of the non-child opportunity and go away for the 3 nights/4 days (Mon-Fri) she is away.

We have done the usual Barcelona, Rome, Nice, Paris, Dublin type destinations - any other recommendations from the amazing travel section? Max budget of £500 for flights and hotel.

Would love hotel/location recommendations too please.

Budapest. There's so much to see and do and it's really cheap. It will be pretty warm but not unbearable in July.

Krakow

I second Budapest, it's my fave city in the world and the food is lush!

Thank you so much. DH had already mentioned Budapest and I have always fancied Lisbon, but was worried they want much to do!

Any hotel/B&B recommendations?

Lisbon wise: lots of good hotels... I would either pick near metro station rossio or Baixa down to the sea as very central or go to Corinthia hotel further out and get tram in that is basically accross the road (cheap, frequent & fast).

things to do: castle, tram 28, lots of street artists, bus tour is worth it to get to monastry, brlrm tower and custard tart shop area as thry are beyond the suspension bridge so too long a walk.
sintra.... 40 minutes on direct train €5 return. you won't be able to see all palaces/castles in a day so suggest you pick a couple. easiest: ignore bus queues and got tut tut for £5 each up very steep hill to Pena palace and Moorish castle which are next to each other. Sintra has a lovely centre with other museum/palace to walk around plus nice resteraunts.....

Budapest...I would stay on pest side of Danube opposite castle hill... cheaper to stay a few rows back from Danube itself. very walkable city. years ago since went but remember castle, baths/spa, zoo and botanical gardens. most poignant is the ww2 simple monument of shoes by the river bank.

It’s actually quite nice going back to your favourite place from those you’ve been to. I used to be sniffy about it but it works well with cities.

You go for nicest hotel with a pool and enjoy eating and drinking and shagging somewhere fab without having to run round sightseeing. And if you want to see the sights again, you can do them much more effectively.

Seville, beautiful, walkable, tapas, chilled, but probably too hot?
