Plan is to go to Lebanon at the beginning of the summer hols.

Excited, looking at flights and Airbnb. Two DDs 13 and 14 and DH.

Last night I looked at a website giving lots of warnings about Lebanon, that it is fantastic etc etc but that you have to be careful and vigilant and don't go here and don't go there.

Am I mad planning a trip there?

Bit of backstory, we study Arabic and have done for a number of years as DH 1st language. Thought it would be a great place to practise. Plus, the history, culture, beaches, food.........

I'd also love to go but a bit scared. Sorry, no real advice.

Thanks for reply. I work in an international department so am going to ask a few people at work next week.
Have been reading a lot of positive stuff this week.

Would also love to go it looks beautiful. But it's not the safest place at the moment. I would also not go for an airbnb and would go for a secure resort type hotel.

Some friends of ours (an English/Egyptian family) went last summer with their 3 kids and loved it! They stayed in a town just outside Beirut, renting an apartment.

Watching with interest as I'm planning a trip to the region later this year (my dad is from there)....

I’m planning to go for a long weekend to Beirut with a day trip to Byblos. Haven’t booked anything yet, but planning to go in May or June. It looks like an amazing g place.

Hi, I went last summer for a few days for work and it was fab, although was being taken around by colleagues that lived there so felt safe. They told me that the reason for the UK foreign office red warnings was because there’s a region of Beirut controlled by Hezbollah. Since they’re a terrorist organisation the FCO have to make it a red zone, and obviously the region near Syrian border. I didn’t go into those areas and felt very safe whole time. It was an amazing place: culture, food, architecture etc.

I agree with PP and would not go for Air BnB and was also advised not to take Uber taxis or any off street (risk drivers working for hezbollah etc).

If I can remember the name of hotel we stay in i’ll Re-post.

Great replies.

I guess I'm also a bit nervous as haven't been abroad for 12 years as we've been saving for a house deposit.

Ridiculous as I lived and worked abroad all over for years when I was younger.

Interesting about the Airbnb as that is what I've been looking at Hmm
