Plane approved car seats

We are flying with BA and have a 2yo. I think the Graco Milestone is FAA approved, has anyone taken it on a flight with BA (Europe)

We could possibly access a Joie spin 360 or a Mothercare Boston from PIL

Any experience with this?

Last time we flew DC was under 2 and we didn't take a car seat. Gosh things just got a lot more expensive too! Smile

Thank you

Do you need It for while you are away? I've never taken a car seat on holiday

planespotting · 28/12/2018 11:44

Yes we need it and we had a bad experience with the rental one before and had to buy one over there!!

Otherwise we wouldn't bother Smile
I know you can take them and I know people do, I just don't know if those models will be allowed.

If you aren't using it on plane think you can take any make. We normally used hire company one until kids were 4 and then got the blow up Bubblebum ones.

dementedpixie · 28/12/2018 11:58

Googling Suggests seat must not exceed 45x45cm. Are the seats you suggest within that size? Plus they need to fit with a lap belt

dementedpixie · 28/12/2018 11:59

You can put them in the hold if you don't need it on board

Lwmommy · 28/12/2018 12:00

No.idea.but if you need to buy one take a look at the Dunelm sale online, i had no idea till yesterday that they even sold car seats but they have lots of big name ones half price.

dementedpixie · 28/12/2018 12:00

And if you put it in the hold you aren't restricted by size

planespotting · 28/12/2018 12:20

@dementedpixie yes! 45cm
What is a blow up Bubblegum? @PenguinPandas

Since we are taking it as we definitely need it at the other end we thought we would use it on the plane but now thinking it might be better to check it in 🤔

I worry it will get damaged in the hold and we are very strict with car seat safety 😬

Maybe if I bubble wrap like mad and put it in the box...

www.bubblebum.co/ It's an inflatable booster seat but need to be 4 plus for that.

Think we took ours once and it went in oversized luggage and was fine other end.

Biggreygoose · 28/12/2018 12:26

Check it in. Its far easier.

Spent a while hunting for FAA approved seats then cross checking with airline requirements and came up with barely anything or seats no longer available.

Plus, you don't then have to manouver a car seat, a two year old and all your hand luggage down a plane which is difficult enough.

eurochick · 28/12/2018 12:26

We have been unimpressed in the past with hired seats so always take ours and check it it. We have a car seat bag. It could get damaged but it is a risk we are willing to take.

planespotting · 28/12/2018 12:26

@PenguinPandas ahhh! My DC is only 2 Smile
I might just wrap it like a Faberge egg.

Although the idea of DC staying in his seat was very appealing

@Biggreygoose I just imagined myself manoeuvring that thing across the aisle and did get a bit anxious
@eurochick our seat from rental was so bad that they let me check every single one they had, all rubbish, then paid for the one I bought in the shop and refunded me.

planespotting · 28/12/2018 12:29

And I mean rubbish, not your average not fancy seat.
