We are staying near Montparnasse and would like to know of some good Parisian restaurants where we would take our 13 yr old and 12 yr old. Doesn't need to be fancy but would love good food

I suggest you post on the website chow hound, with a few more details as to your budget, types of cuisine you are interested in etc. I stayed in montparnasse last year and noticed a lot of creperies. It was a Breton area when the trainline became established because it was on the line to Brittany.
The only places I could recommend in Paris are a vegan burger bar ( hank burger in the rue des archives in the Marais,) , a falafel joint ( l’as du falafel on the rue des rosiers) and a traditional jambon beurre joint near the Place Vendome ( le petit vendome). Might be fun to take your kids there for a very french/ Parisian experience at a reasonable price. Not fancy but good quality bar snacks and a tiny sit down area.

La Petite Bretonne on Rue Mouffetard

Les bougresses is a classic French restaurant in the marais area. Breihz cafe is great for your kids - a creperie of sorts with lots of different fillings - again in the marais however I think there is a bus from montparnasse.

Angelina sells fantastic cakes and hot chocolate to die for - a great way to spend an afternoon!

If money isn't a huge problem then Kong is quite an experience to dine at. Evening is best as their glass ceiling is gorgeous to eat under.

It's Asian fusion.

We ate at a restaurant called Le Perroquet Vert. Its close to the moulin rouge and sacre coeur. Very friendly and food was lovely. DP returned when he was working in Paris and said it was just as good.

In 2011 we took our children - then 10 and 13 to Dragon Elysees - which is a Chinese Restaurant just off Champs Elysees. We had gone pre children in 1997 and knew they’d love it as the floor is see-through and is a fish tank with fish and turtles. It was expensive - due to the location - but our best ever family meal. In 2018 my daughter went on a trip to Paris aged 20 with her boyfriend - and made sure they went to the same restaurant - (still expensive apparently !) My son - now 18 - says he would go to Paris for the day just to go back to this restaurant - so you could say it was a hit ! The food was fine - but it was the novelty of the fish swimming in the floor that was a hit ! It is very easily combined with going up the Arc de Triomphe - great for a night visit.

Basically any of the little cafes in Montmartre too!

Au chien qui fume in Les Halles is fun ! First time I took my kids (many years ago) a beautifully dressed elderly lady came in with her poodle, they had a table for two, the poodle was seated and served meringues whilst she had the most beautiful arrangement of sea food! The food was great and a lovely ambience.

Bouillon chartier it's the sort of French type restaurant you send in old films with traditional type waiters etc. It's been there for over100 years so must be doing something right.
Has a decent website in English do you can check if it's for you does lots of different things including snails. Metro stop grand boulevard if that helps

Aux Artistes, rue Falguiere, very close to Montparnasse. Good food, very good price, and a great atmosphere. Good place for children of that age, probably best to book first, although it is a very casual sort of place it is usually packed.

Bofinger, classic brasserie. Les Pinces for lobster rolls. La Drougerie creperie in le Marais. Mariage Freres for afternoon tea and cake.
