Things for DH and teenage boys to do in Liverpool?

So my DH and two sons, aged 13 and 14 are plannign a few days in Liverpool, to pay homage to Anfield. They'll have a few spare afternoons.

They're staying in the city centre, and won't have a car. Any ideas for things they shouldn't miss?

thanks

Beatles museum. My BIl and nephews aged 10 and 12 had to be dragged out. There is an awful lot to do in Liverpool, can't say I go there often but the waterfront is impressive and there are good museums etc, and always the ferry cross the mersey.
Have a look on t'internet for their tourist info.

Thanks Flibberty - it's good then, the beatles museum? I've looked a bit online, but you know how every attraction sells itself so hard, it's difficult to tell what might really be fun

the ferry across the mersey sounds great too, thanks

Liverpool has all these museums, all pretty close together - though I have to admit I've not been to any of them!

There's also the Tate Liverpool if they like art at all?

Or Liverpool FC if they like football.

I remembered after that posting that BIL was an absolute beatles fanatic and the boys had grown up with the music so obviously they were biased, but my sister enjoyed it too. I think you can go in the original Tavern now too.

WendyWeber · 24/06/2007 23:57

Do you mean the Cavern, f?

flibbertyjibbet · 25/06/2007 00:00

oops!
But then Wendy, read the OP, the woman says her men are going to PAY HOMAGE TO ANFIELD and you tell her that there is a football ground there in case they are into that!
So I think we are equal on late night blunders

WendyWeber · 25/06/2007 00:07

Ah - good point, f!

They are going there specially you mean. Well durr

NoNoNoNo · 25/06/2007 18:38

Thanks Wendy! To my lads, I think Liverpool has meant football long before they knew there was a city there!

Thanks for the link about the museums. Since they're all close together, it sounds like they can mostly wander around that area

Much appreicated, both of you

I bet it has, NoNo . Mine are a bit like that about Old Trafford.

There is also an aquarium the other side of the Mersey if they feel like trying the ferry - it's small but interesting. We went on a "summer" day a lot like today a few years ago, getting into the aquarium was a blessed relief!

There used to be a warships museum at Birkenhead, DH went there once, there was an actual U-boat , but that closed down last year

Book tours to Paul McCartney and John Lennon's old homes through National Trust. Fantastic spine tingling experience. Also book Magical Mystery tour on old hippy bus with sardonic Scouse guide through Albert Dock tourist centre.

For a drink, nowhere beats the Philharmonic pub opposite the Royal Phil. Hall-mosaiced Victorian splendour.

Lunch in Chinatown.

My parens began married life in a flat in Anield Rd. Al ltheir friends came by to watch the matches from bedroom window.

I love Liverpool.

Nearby also Anthony Gormley's fantastic installation on Crosby beach.
