Has anyone been to Conkers?? We've been thinking of taking ds and dd. Is it suitable for a 20month old and a 3 year old???

I went earlier in the year with DD (2 and a half). I think it was too young for her, there was an indoor and outdoor playgound for her, but most of the assault course and the nature displays were too old for her. DP however, loved the assault course but broke his ankle!

(More from me!)

She does however love Twycross Zoo, which is just down the road from Conkers.

great for school age kids - yours maybe too young to fully enjoy it woodpops -

super-bump.

went to conkers on Thursday. Thought it was OK but a little old for DS (27 mths) and that goes for pretty much everything. the play stuff was really good but too big for the little guy and they ped me off because they didn't any healthy drinks in the cafe for ds. We brought our own but it soon went warm and manky and all they had was fizzy rubbish or sugar water which pretends to be juice. nevermind.

DaddyGhoul · 29/10/2005 07:30

... went to twycross the day before though and it was excellent. DS loved it. highly recommended.

I went last year and didn't enjoy it at all, mine are 5 & 7, I was really bored and found it a total waste of money, also they have a inflatable slide thing and a indoor play area, which you have to pay extra for.

I've never heard of Conkers. I dropped in on this thread expecting to find a shared experience.

One of the highlights of my boys' half term (that generally involved entertainment costing lots of money) was charging round some woodland for several hours collecting masses and masses of conkers!

Conkers will be brilliant in about 20-30 years when the trees have grown! At the moment, imo, it's a bit of a wasteland.

I wouuldn't recommend it for pre-schoolers but for 6-10yo it can be a lot of fun. We've been with Beavers and with school and the treasure hunts and ranger-led activities are fun when there are enough children to make teams.

On sunny days there isn't enough shade outside and some of the children were very hot and very thirsty on one of our trips.

DaddyGhoul · 29/10/2005 17:05

oh yes... the inflatable slide and the other extra pay stuff. that really gets up my left nostril. i hate paying extra for things when i've already paid anywhere between 6 - 8 quid to get in!

skinnycow · 29/10/2005 17:27

Daddyghoul - we were there on Thursday too

it wasnt very busy was it - unless you went to the understaffed cafe and I bought oversugared drinks - although the curly fries were to die for

DaddyGhoul · 30/10/2005 06:15

oops! sorry, a bit late. yes, the cafe on the waterside bit was staffed by one kid who looked like he was going to have a heart attack. all they sold was that ribena juice box rubbish where 5% of it is juice and the rest water and glucose syrup. grrr.

auntymandy · 30/10/2005 06:18

We pass this place on the way down to my brothers and keep saying we should call and see what it is!! Worth a visit then?

DaddyGhoul · 30/10/2005 06:26

depends how old your kids are. 5 and over i would say would be good but it didn't really float ds's boat except for the miniature train.

auntymandy · 30/10/2005 06:35

mine range from 14 to 1.
