Shimba Hills is lovely Very close to the coast, a lovely tree house hotel and plenty of animals to see.

It is where I got married

cameroonmama · 02/07/2007 19:59

Ahh Hula, how nice that someone else knows the place, we got married at Diani

Whoosh I'll do a link..

Shimba Hills Nature reserve

The Lodge

We had the suite for our wedding night. Was fab. Huge windows and balconies, bedroom, sitting room and bathroom.

here goes look here. Let me know if you have any questions, especially about malaria, stuff for kids to do etc

Whoooosh · 02/07/2007 23:15

Looks gorgeous but prob a bit big for just me and dp....

Whoooosh · 03/07/2007 10:05

Cameroonmama-you have convinced me-it looks fab so have decided to try and book it with some friends-how were the mozzies?
We will have 2 boys aged 10 and 12 and a girl of 2.5 with us.

KEN-YA OR KEENYA?

cameroonmama · 03/07/2007 11:59

whooosh, I am delighted that I have convinced you! What time of year will you go? The house is equipped with bed nets, but you all need to take malarone, itsthe most effective prophylactic, albeit expensive. The usual covering up at dusk and insect repellant keeps the bites at bay.

I was going to suggest it would be fine even if only for you and dp as you can kind of seperate/close off one of the two bedroom 'wings'.

Jools, Ke-nya for me, depends on how colonial you are feeling

Whoooosh · 03/07/2007 12:05

Hopefully January-how did your dc's cope witht he anti malaria drugs?

Am mostly concerened about the 2yr old and keeping her amused fo rtwo weeks-it really does look lovely.

Did you do the food shopping and decide on menus?

We've been a couple of times - before children. I can't wait to take DD as I love Kenya, but must say that I think six may be a bit young for safari. It is tiring and a long way on very bad roads. Why don't you wait until DS is ten or 11. Also, the older he is the more he will remember his first safari when he is older.

cameroonmama · 03/07/2007 12:17

whooosh, do you want to email me? I'm worried we are hijacking Ssandy's thread stephensonkuk at yahoo uk

Whoooosh · 03/07/2007 12:53

I lived in Kenya as a kid & went on safari from a very early age, certainly younger than 6 so while it was just part of our normal life, I'm not sure 6 is too young. One PP has said there is litte for kids to do there ... I just remember returning to the UK and finding it incredibly dull, cold and grey so I'm not sure I agree! We would do Mombassa and Tsavo as one trip, combining beach and safari but cameroonmama's suggestion sounds great! Mombassa outside of the beach is interesting - I used to like the market, Fort Jesus and Gedi. Re malaria, my Dad got it and it's horrible but just take the normal precautions and deet up! And Ken-ya most definetely!
