Nice Southern Tenerife hotels for families?

dameofdilemma · 26/11/2018 15:56

We've had to cancel our Feb half term hol plans and want to make up for it at Easter with a week in Tenerife, ideally Costa Adeja area.

I've never been, dp only went as a young surfer dude so we're not clued up on hotels that are good for families (rather than super luxury spa hotels aimed at adults only).

There's dp, dd and I - we're looking for two connecting rooms. Somewhere not overly noisy at night time (no banging music from the bar etc). Somewhere with kids club, playgrounds, pools for kids....

Have looked at Abama and Sheraton but prices would be circa 800 Euros a night for the cheapest two rooms - which is a no!

We could spend £3-4k I think on the hotel (seeing as we won't have been on holiday for nearly a year by then...) and we do want to stay somewhere nice.
In all honestly have no idea how far that goes in Tenerife though....

Iv been to the jacaranda with kids. We went all inclusive, food was good, have different themed nights, kids clubs, kids activities, adult activity’s and evening entertainment. It’s about 5 minute walk to the beach.

lots33 · 26/11/2018 17:41

Iberostar Anthelia is lovely but pricey.

Ricekrispie22 · 26/11/2018 19:28

Iberostar Les Dallas has the interconnecting rooms that you're after, but you could get an apartment with two separate bedrooms at Dream Villas Tagoro which I personally feel is a much nicer hotel.

Runningintothesunset · 26/11/2018 19:39

Green Garden (with tots to travel) is great if your kids are small. Might not be so great for teenagers

dameofdilemma · 26/11/2018 19:40

Thanks all.
Rice: are there apartments near the beach? Ideally we don't want to have a long walk (have heard about the steep hills...) to the beach.

Dp also wants a holiday where we don't go to the supermarket (to be fair most of our hols have been self catering).

Limb: was it noisy? We've done a few eurocamp style hols where the entertainment went on till late. Was fine when we weren't in a lodge near the bar but am guessing that harder in a hotel.

Lots: yup checked out anthelia, def pricey and couldn't see any interconnecting rooms coming up.

Hotel Villa Maria. Two bedroom villa's which are absolutely stunning. Lovely peaceful place. Free shuttle to beach and main Costa Adeje strip. The breakfast was to die for. You can do full board or just bed and breakfast and even though you are in a villa you can get room service. Great combo of villa/resort holiday.

KingIrving · 26/11/2018 19:48

Costa adeje Palace from the H10 group is not so expensive and very close to the beach. It is on the waterfront but there is no beach in front of hotel but it is very close and a nice walk,

Ilmb · 26/11/2018 20:26

No it wasn’t. No noise from any bars or anything and the entertainment finishes at 11 but at that time of year evening entertainment is inside so you won’t hear i it anyway from the rooms.

Ilmb · 26/11/2018 20:27

They have interconnecting rooms and also do 2 bed suites.

dameofdilemma · 26/11/2018 20:28

Personally I'd prefer a villa but worry dd will get a bit bored. She usually makes friends in the playgrounds and kids clubs.

Will check a few out. It's dawning on me that Tenerife is as expensive as skiing!

Gran Costa Adeje is lovely. No noise. Steep ish but short walk to the shopping centre /beach. Food is bloody amazing.

HotdogsareDogs · 26/11/2018 20:29

Daily kids club too

cowfacemonkey · 26/11/2018 21:17

Hotel villa maria has a communal pool, playground, putting green, and kids activities and playroom. It's quite low key but mine were 10 and 7 when we went and had a great time.

dameofdilemma · 27/11/2018 12:13

Thanks everyone for the recs, its really helped.

Personally I really, really like Hotel Villa Maria and think its much nicer but think dp will object to not being by the beach and dd will want somewhere bigger with more kids around.

Alternatively I like the look of Gran Costa Adeja...looks v family friendly but still nice.

I think the more luxury hotels would be fine pre-kids but am not feeling the relaxed family vibe from some of them...

Gran costa adeje is not on the beach and it is quite a walk uphill .
The H10 costa adele palace is very family oriented. They are a mini golf on site, 1 heated outside pool , 1 heated inside pool (one of the very few hotels to have an indoor pool) , 1 non heated outside pool. Massive gardens, and a very nice pedestrian path along the sea to run after dinner.

The gran is a nice hotel, but on a road and did I mention it is uphill. Big hill.
The Anthelia is more luxury and now their prices are crazy high. We went 3 times to the Anthelia and 4 or 5 to the Costa adeje palace for Christmas meet ups with all the nephews and nieces running everywhere. It is a family hotel, there are lots for kids.

thekingfisher · 27/11/2018 17:29

Baobab suites every day of the week - with free taxis up and down the big hills to the beach ...

Fleurchamp · 27/11/2018 17:29

Second Villa Maria
We went with two toddlers and they had a fantastic time - made friends, did activities with Bea. I would go back in a heartbeat.

cowfacemonkey · 27/11/2018 18:26

Oh I remember Bea she was so lovely!

dameofdilemma · 28/11/2018 10:32

Aaaagh am now completely undecided, as is dp (so he's no help).
Am wondering if it'll be a pain having to get a taxi/bus or drive back to the Villa every time we want to get changed/chill out/not eat out.
When we've done Eurocamp style lodges its been handy to just be able to nip back easily to the lodge.

Am also thinking for a 6 yr old the hotels activities, playgrounds etc might be more suited.

King - thanks for rec on H10 and warning on Gran - agree H10 looks good.
Have also added Iberostar Bourganville to the list...bit cheaper than Anthelia...though no idea if Playa del Bobo is any different to Playa Fanabe/Duque??

OP posts:
dameofdilemma · 28/11/2018 14:58

H10 is now at the bottom of the list as you have to pay in full on booking (but can cancel later), unlike the others I've checked out which don't ask for any payment.
Its also still a 500m (flat?) hike to Duque.

Bourganville also off the list due to the area.

So its down to Villa Maria or (at twice the price), Anthelia .

Can someone with one 6 year old child just tell me what they would do as I seem incapable of making a decision?

Another recommendation for The Gran. Cava at breakfast, super pool, gentle evening entertainment, the ABBA tribute band are excellent. If the hill back to the hotel bothers you taxis are only 5euros from the beach front. We return in march for our 10th visit

cowfacemonkey · 28/11/2018 18:00

You can rent DVD players at villa maria too which we did and packed a few dvd's which was handy for a couple of afternoons of down time. It's difficult choosing when you want to make sure everyone is entertained. My need not to be surrounded by masses of loud people and fighting for sun loungers overrode most other things!

Other plus point but not vital to daily life points about Villa Maria:

  1. They take you to you villa in a golf buggy!

  2. They provide you with fresh bath AND pool towels in your villa everyday (it's like a hotel in the sense that it is cleaned and fresh towels provided everyday)

  3. You get a fruit basket!

  4. The whole place is immaculate

  5. The breakfast buffet is unbelievable!

  6. If you have a late flight you can store your bags and still use the facilities, plus there are shower rooms in the gym so you can still swim and get changed before you leave.

I'm living vicariously here as I'd love to go back!!

dameofdilemma · 28/11/2018 20:55

Villa Maria it is. Ultimately the space of a villa won over hotel rooms.

Thanks all for recs, I'll raise a glass of Moët to you all at breakfast Grin
