Good evening after a LOT of agonising and watching air fares increase we have booked return flights for a fortnight to L A for next august. Me DH and 3 grown up kids early twenties.
Was thinking of hotels but now thinking air b&b style accommodation
Was thinking of 5 days LA then 5 days Palm Springs
Would love to do Disney
Am wondering If sandiego might be better than Palm Springs some wise words from the mumsnet tees would be much appreciated

Those of you telling the OP it will be unbearable in August - she has already booked flights!!
We went end of July/August to Vegas, San Fran, LA then San Diego. I really don’t cope well with extreme heat but loved our trip. We found an Airbnb in San Diego about 20yrds from the beach, watching the sun go down over the Pacific was one of the high lights for me.
Yes, it can be hot, but I actually think it was worse here in may/June this year.
Enjoy, I would love to go again.

We went in august and it wasn't unbearable other than death valley.

I would shorten your hollywood time & have a couple of nights in San Diego. (LA is so busy with traffic.) Stay in La Jolla for beach/surfer vibe. We were able to get cheap tickets on stubhub for baseball in SanDiego (v San Francsico) 48 hours before the match last Aug.

we had 2 nights in LA and managed

Day1
Warner bros studios morning
Hollywood boulevard, Chinese Theatre etc afternoon
the Observatory for sunset
Day2
Universal studios
then drove to San Diego

I wouldn’t spend 7 hours in Hollywood let alone 7 days - it’s awful.
Santa Monica , Santa Barbara , Venice Beach San Francisco , Alcatraz and Carmel were our California highlights.

futility
I didnt hate LA and would go back as 2 days wasnt enough, although we did see the main things we wanted to. Our only problem was Anaheim was the wrong side for us and it took a long time in rush hour to get to Warner Bros and Universal.
I would go back and do that side of california again, although we preferred san francisco, yosemite and grand canyon. We missed out time in Monteray and Carmel as DS left a bag with passports in a restaurant and had to back 2 hours each way on labour day

Thankyou
We have been to San Francisco a coupe of times and been down as far as Santa Barbara / Monterey
Think we just wanted to see something different really
We will visit universal week one and Disney week two
I might skip Palm Springs and have a night in San Diego instead
