Just wondering if any experiences weather wise please in February ?

I am wondering this too. Looking at Feb half term, would like it to be warm enough to swim in a pool (maybe heated) but not too fussed about the sea.

Have heard it is good to good to the southern resorts at that time of year - experiences?

Also anyone been to Sando San Blas resort lately - is it nice?

So interested in daytime air temperatures and how windy it might be - we went to Agadir one spring and it didn't really work as a holiday with young kids as it was windy enough it was too cold to swim even though it was warm in the sun and the pool was heated.

But wondering if Marrakesh could be better?

Not been to Tenerife in February, but Lanzarote. It was a disappointing 18 degrees most of the time, and cold at night. Definitely not swimming or bikini weather.

bettyberet · 25/11/2018 09:58

I went in February 2010, and it rained all week, literally stair rods. The market at Los Cristianos was flooded waist deep. If you google, the local paper ran pictures...

CatsRock · 25/11/2018 10:06

Oh no! doesn't sound promising

molemonkey · 25/11/2018 10:16

I lived there for 4 years and always came back to the uk for 2 weeks in Febuary due to my birthday but we we went home everyone would tell us about the awful rain they had been having

ilikepeanutbutter · 25/11/2018 10:18

We had a very wet trip to lanzarote last Feb. What about maderia?

BarbaraofSevillle · 25/11/2018 11:12

It's hit and miss at that time of year. We've been to both Lanzarote and Tenerife in December, January and February.

Sometimes it's warm and sunny enough to laze by the pool, sometimes not. Sometimes rainy, sometimes cloudy, but we've been lucky on the whole and have even swum in the sea on occasion. Heated pools are warm enough to swim in, unheated not.

Weather much more likely to be better in the south of either island and there's still nice quiet areas if that's what you want. Probably need a jacket if you want to eat outside or sit on a balcony in the evening though.

Madeira likely to be the same or slightly worse weather wise at that time of year, due to being further north.

Depends what you want. If you want a laze by the pool holiday doing not very much, what about Egypt. If you want to get out and about, Lanzarote would be a good choice as there's lots of things to do not too far away if the weather isn't beach/pool weather.

We've booked to go in early Feb so watching this with interest!

hendricksy · 25/11/2018 13:05

The canaries are hot all year round but can be variable out of season . I've been to Lanzarote a few times in November and it was hot .

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 25/11/2018 13:09

We go every year to canaries in February for a bit of winter ‘sun’
In the last five years or so it has become unpredictable - but we try to think of it as a bit of early spring (more like late April/early May weather)
Definitely not pool weather

Silkie2 · 25/11/2018 13:11

But the warmth of summer lingers, so it can be warm in the U.K. in sept (2/3 months after the longest day in June. But snowing 2/3 months before the longest day, March

Sunshineonleaf · 25/11/2018 13:14

I've been to Tenerife and all the other Canaries in January, February and March.
You have to have different expectations than for a summer holiday in the Med, especially if you are taking children.
It is never warm enough to swim in the sea. Water parks may be closed but even if they are not it's not hot enough.
The weather is variable, you should expect some warm sunny days and can swim if the pool is heated. However you can be unlucky and have a cold snap, rain, wind or just dull cloud. I had a solid week of rain in Gran Canaria one February. Went to Lanzarote in March this year and they had had awful weather all through since January. It was cool and windy but sunny.

Daylight hours are shorter and it cools down quickly once it's dark. Clothing wise don't pack the same as you would for a summer holiday in the Med. Shorts and t shirts for day time with a warm fleece which you hope not to need. Evenings are too cool for strappy sundresses. I take long trousers and layers for tops. Again a fleece or jacket.

The reason I love going in winter is because that little injection of sunshine lifts the spirits and sets you up until the summer.

I went in jan a few years ago and it was 21/23 every day. Lovely. That said it was also the north of the island and the waves were enormous. Check out recent news of the sea in tenerife at the moment and youll see what it can get like in the atlantic.
We did go to the south a couple of days which was a lot calmer sea but i didnt like the atmosphere of the south as much as it felt very Brits-abroad compared to the spanish feel of the south.

buttermilkwaffles · 25/11/2018 15:51

I went for 2 weeks last year, last week of Feb and first week of March. Weather was pretty bad the first week including very heavy rain on the Sunday and very windy some days. Second week was warm and sunny.

This was in the North though, maybe South was better? South does tend to be better weather apparently, but like @Branleuse I much preferred the North. I was after more of a hiking holiday than a sun/beach one though.. Did see some locals swimming in the sea and in a river in the second week but it was pretty warm then, at least air temp, not sure about the sea!

If I had just gone for the first week I would have been rather disappointed, but luckily being there for 2 weeks I at least got a week of great weather... But it's pot luck really...

SpeckledyHen · 28/11/2018 21:24

Thanks for all the great replies . Think we will avoid February as it’s too unpredictable. Back to the drawing board ....

Everywhere is unpredictable in europe in february, but canaries is your safest bet.
I often try and go away in february, but my tip is to make sure its somewhere with either things to do that dont rely on perfect weather, and if possible a heated pool.
Ive had great winter holidays in tenerife, malta, and next year we are trying morocco.
Its a way of going to some lovely places for pretty cheap, but obviously you run the risk of having rain and wind on some of the days.

Hezz · 29/11/2018 07:52

Cape Verde or Egypt will be more reliable weather wise, although I'd not be that keen on going to Egypt again.
