Italian Beach Holiday

Hello,

Hoping for some holiday advice! It's only the last few years DH and i have been able to afford to go on holiday and we've been really enjoying laid back European beach holidays.

We like to do a few days in a city, then get an air bnb in the countryside somewhere close to lovely quiet beaches (not rows of deckchairs etc if possible), where we can spend days swimming and walking and pottering round small towns.

We'd really like to go to Italy in June next year as neither of us have ever been - I've looked at Sicily, Sardinia, Tuscany and the Amalfi and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed by the choice!

I'd love to hear any recomendations anyone has!x

Amalfi coast does not have much by way of beaches, rocky coves maybe. Tbh we were unimpressed driving along the Tuscan beaches north of Pisa but Elba and resorts nearby supposed to be nice.

Look up Le Marche
It's great

catweather · 22/11/2018 20:53

Thanks so much for the advice! Is there anywhere else you'd recomend?

So if you do Le Marche
For the beach think about San Bennedetto Del Tronto or Civitanova or Porto San Giorgio

Then the countryside is on your door step so you get beach and country in one bosh.
If you fly in to Bologna and drive down it can be your city break

Or do Rome and then drive across the country to Marche , it's only a few hours on the new road

There are some wonderful apartments to rent in Campofilone (my dad and his partner built them but they are now sold)
Look up Borgo Della Nave

Think pool, amazing gardens, in the hills, ten minute drive to the beach. Gates. Modern but built in a traditional style..

I will try to link you

Look at Viareggio - lovely and mountains not far away. Be careful though a lot of Italian sections of beach are privately owned and you have to pay to sit on them. It can cost about £30 per person a day. They do have public bits but they're normally right at the back out of the way.

catweather · 22/11/2018 21:14

Both Le Marche and Viareggio look gorgeous and just the sort of thing we're looking for, thanks so much Grin

Bit alarming about the paid for beaches though! Is that a thing all over Italy?

Yes, it's very normal in Italy.

catweather · 22/11/2018 21:41

Crikey! Would you still recommend Italy or maybe not?

Hotels on the seafront often have their own beaches. The riviera around Genoa has long beaches.

iwantasofa · 22/11/2018 21:47

The beaches in Campania (around Salerno and Agropoli, and further south ) are free. It is cheaper than Amalfi too.

Sicily is gorgeous. The best of the north coast beaches is at Cefalu (which is an absolutely amazing town - Medieval old town, castle on a 1000 foot high rock above the town). On the south coast I've been to Marina di Ragusa (we stayed in Ragusa itself which is about 5 miles inland and absolutely amazing - Marina di Ragusa is a nice beach, but a bit of a nowhere place). However, I've only ever been in spring - it gets very, very hot in summer. June might be okay, but by August it's certainly too hot. I didn't notice any restrictions on access to the beach in either place.

rimini

shouldidoitspoilt · 23/11/2018 08:31

It's not £30 in Marche
More like £5 a day each
For a bed and an umbrella the beaches all have cafes on and you can eat spaghetti and clams and drink wine in your pants for about £8 a head
It's bliss

shutlingsloe · 23/11/2018 19:51

Yes, I would still recommend it! We've often stayed at hotels with their own beaches or just paid - I like the facilities!

Blossom4538 · 27/11/2018 19:08

My sister loves Sardinia! Stunning beaches and laid back.

LoniceraJaponica · 28/11/2018 14:36

We adored Cefalu as well @FermatsTheorem
I would avoid the first week in August as they have their local fiesta and it gets very busy. No restrictions on the beach 2 years ago.
