Is it worth pre booking seats?

Hi we are going to menorca in a few weeks and didn't choose to book seats as it was alot extra for 6 of us. We can upgrade to them though at any time but wondering if we need them. Will they really split us all up ie kids on their own? Do you book your seats in case? Thanks.

Just an update, we went 3 hours early and got sat together On way back, in resort, they offered sitting together for 17 Euros (a tenner ish) for all 6 of us, so we did that on way back since we would be arriving with all other guests.

It is against international air traffic regulations for a child (under 12yo I think) to be seated away from a parent - they then count as an unaccompanied minor and the airline has to make provision to accompany them. So you can always sit next to a young child.

I had a discussion with Thomson about this earlier this year when I panicked and paid for DD (10) and I to sit together - then I realised that Virgin WON'T separate me from her - simple to discover why. Thomson's not-very-helpful call centre staff told me it would cost £35 to change to booking and refund the fee 'but they would make an exception this time'. Ha, ha, ha.
