Hello all
Desperately need a holiday with DH and me for February. I work in education so must be half term:

  1. Somewhere lovely - either winter sun OR an adventure but we don’t have a massive budget - £1500 TOPS including spending money. Flights from the north east.
  2. Good food

Have so far considered:
Berlin
Tenerife (too busy?)

Thank goh

Not flights from NE ( sorry) but Aquaba in Jordan (flights from Gatwick)
Won't be sunbathing hot I think BUT Petra @ 1 hour away (can stay overnight just outside of complex and you must see sunrise & sunset) , Dead Sea on your doorstep, a 3 - 4 hour journey to Jeresh (fantastic Roman ruins)
Whilst not flights from a NE airport BUT one of the best places I have visited and I would say worth it if you at all interested in Roman stuff
You can plan yourself , and local driver / guides would be available if you didn't want to reply on public transport

Other places - Cyprus - reasonable weather , a few Roman bits to see but didn't rock my boat, Rome - less tourists than at other times of the year and lots to see & do,

Be flexible within the Half Term dates and SkyScanner is your friend.

Budapest is great, quite cheap too. Go to the spa (on guardian website today under best spas) go to the ballet/opera maybe, nice galleries.

Marrakech?

viktoria · 19/11/2018 21:14

As you mentioned Tenerife - have you considered Gomera? You fly to Tenerife and get a boat to Gomera. Beautiful island - especially if you like hiking.

Lanzarote is fairly quiet if you stay away from Costa Teguise and Playa del Carmen. Similar for Tenerife if you don't go to Los Cristianos or Playa de las Americas. Probably same for Gran Canaria if you stay away from the larger resorts. There will always be the villa on the edge of town option.

Lots to do in Lanzarote like caves, volcano park, vineyards, watersports, hiking, cycling plus beach, pool, food, relaxing.

Plug your requirements into the deals section of jet2holidays to see what comes up - fly from Newcastle or Leeds.

North Tenerife is beautiful.

CottonSock · 20/11/2018 11:41

Madeira I've always fancied. But depends what airport you are near.
I think weather could be mixed in a lot of places so added the likelihood of storms..except canaries which are reliable.

CottonSock · 20/11/2018 11:42

And Berlin would be freezing?

Peaseblossom22 · 20/11/2018 11:42

Marrakech , Grenada ( The Alhambra) Cyprus

Gozo is quiet and has interesting things to see and do, and the weather could be OK. A bit of a trek to get to but you can always spend some time in Valetta, Malta too. Food very good, especially if you like Italian, and decent value too.

If you want winter sun on a budget in Feb half-term you won't have a ton of choices and the price of flights might be prohibitive, but going to Sky Scanner first is a good idea. Going and having a chat to a travel agent is a good idea too, as a package with an all-in price could help you stay within your budget.

As for winter sun in Feb - Canary Islands, Cyprus, Madeira, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Israel - would all be at least warm (although not hot).

juneau · 20/11/2018 11:47

P.S. We had a lovely few days in Valencia in Feb half-term this year. It was mild and sunny and around 18 degrees and there was plenty to do. Alicante, Murcia, Malaga and Seville are all likely to be sunny and mild too, to name a few other choices.

aroundanothercorner · 20/11/2018 11:56

Marrakech from Manchester easily within budget and 4*.

JustAnotherManicUsername · 21/11/2018 21:33

We are off to Granada then. Flights from Gatwick were only about £50pp but I don't know whether anywhere in the NE flies to Granada. It is a bit of pain to get to by train but there are coaches from Malaga. Or Malaga itself is supposed to be lovely. I've been to Andalucia in December before and it was lovely and mild and sunny, even though you did need a light coat most days.

Peaseblossom22 · 22/11/2018 15:28

We flew direct to Grenada from London City airport .
