Passport Interview

I've never had a passport and I know I will need to go and have an interview but I was wondering if anyone has any experience of what they ask etc? I'm a little worried about applying anyway as I am NC with my parents so don't have their details

Are you in the UK?. If so have a read of this:-

People are not generally interviewed when applying for a first passport, where did that idea come from?.

16 year old niece -born in uk as were parents, grandparents, great great grandparents & every traceable previous generation. Had to go to Liverpool (90 mins travel) for an interview as she was getting her first passport for a school trip. My DC has had a passport since 8 months old and so never interviewed.

Passport interviews. After you apply, you may be asked to attend an interview to confirm your identity. You'll get a letter from HM Passport Office asking you to phone for an appointment at a passport interview office. ... You may not need an interview if you were born on or before 2 September 1929.

It does say MAY be asked to attend an interview so you might not have to have one op. From what I remember it was quite straight forward and nothing to worry about.

Its standard for adult first passports to have to interview now.

We did this recently and it was really easy. They ask you to confirm some info like address date of birth etc and then generally it's just a chat. I got asked about who our car insurance is with and where the nearest shop / post office is. My sister got asked what number bus she got to work. Basically they are just trying to get a feel for whether you're telling the truth or a dodgy bastard trying to steal someone's identity. Nothing to worry about unless you're the latter!

Thanks all, someone told me they might ask about where I went to school etc, I guess I'm just a fairly anxious person so prefer to be prepared

Mine was just like having a chat, no problem at all. Factual questions just fitted in that felt like they were based in my replies. I didn't know a couple of things and it wasn't a problem.

They didn't like my picture! Otherwise we chatted about what was sold in the Lidl in town where I live.

ps: I now have the ugliest passport pic (ever) instead.

Never heard of this. Learn something new every day!

My passport interview was around 8 yrs ago now. They asked me how old my parents were and how old my husband was. Really stumped me! I had to figure out from their dates of birth as don’t generally think about how old people are. Then again I barely remember how old I am at the best of times.

Yup, I did that too a couple of years ago, applying for my first British passport as an adult. It was just a friendly chat, he was clearly checking me out, but managed to keep it light and chatty. Questions about my family, my kids school (they uniform colour), my life, where I live etc. Just checking I am the person that they have the documentation for and that my story matches. So it may be about where you were born, your school and other stuff, just to verify sideways all facts match. They're not out to deliberately trip you up and they will do their best to put you at ease, and if there is something you can't tell them about they'll find something else instead. Just make sure you follow the instructions about what to bring and where/when to come absolutely to the letter. For example I was not allowed to be too early as they don't have much waiting space...
