We are going away in 2 weeks to Majorca and as usual i'm leaving everything to the last minute. I am going to go and buy everything we need for DS (15 months) at the weekend and am trying to make a list. Here is what i've got so far:
Sunglasses
UV Suit
Spray on lotion
Hats
Shoes for around/in the pool
Sandals
Beach towels
Inflatable ring type thing
Arm Bands - possibly
Shade Tent - but not sure if he'd stay in it.

What else might i need? (apart from clothes, sleeping things etc) Last time i went he was only tiny and so was out of the sun etc. If my current list is crap, please point me in the right direction i'm getting all stressed.

TIA

Toys and books! One of those drawing things - not etcha sketch but that type of thing (£5 form woolies), crayons & paper, ...don't think you need sungalsses, maybe some swim nappies as well - otherwise you could have alot of washing....

I'm a bit about your chances of keeping sunglasses ona 15mo but I suppose you've got to try. What about medical type stuff like sachets of calpol? And child-friendly insect repellent.

Nip · 20/06/2007 14:12

Thank you these are exactly the things i wanted reminding of.

(I have thought sunglasses because he LOVES wearing mine and DHs. SO i thought about getting his own rather than getting his grubby mits on my Ralph Laurens )

Definitely try with sunglasses but don't be surprised if you don't return home with them. Still I can see that if you keep them secret right until you go they might be quite diverting on the flight.

Def a few books and a few of his fave small things - couple of tiny puzzles, cars etc.

And have you got waterproof toys - like a boat, car - all the children round the pool had these on our last holiday and it gelled them togtether and made friends - even the very young children

Oblomov · 20/06/2007 14:46

I bought childrens sunglasses for 99p and a second pair from a big 'sportsworld' type shop £1.99 - came home without either - went down a treat.

Oblomov · 20/06/2007 14:47

And however many nappies you calculate, take 5 extra.

Nip · 20/06/2007 14:49

Thanks so much.

Do you think a shade tent thingy would be worth it, since he's well into walking and cant usually sit down for 5 mins? Am i going to get it, put it up and then never use it (apart from keeping my drink cold ?)

a cheeky little jar of food in case he's desperate when you get there? Otherwise i think you're doing really well to be so oraganised so far

notsogummyanymore · 20/06/2007 14:50

if he has a sleep you could always put in there and have peace of mind whilst you relax?

notsogummyanymore · 20/06/2007 14:50

the tent, not the jar! haha

mckenzie · 20/06/2007 14:53

in my experience I would say don't buy the inflatable things here. Wait until you get your resort and you might find some lying around from families that have gone home and can't be bothered packing them up and taking them with then. And you can always buy them in resort if not. Our last 2 week holiday in majorca we bought one boat for DS and a bucket for DD but by them time we left we were able to hand over to other families 3 boats, 2 baby inflatables, about 3 bucket and spades etc etc.
Forget the shade tent, bag a sun umbrella on the beach/by the pool instead.

sweetheart · 20/06/2007 14:56

take a spare t-shirt that is baggy that you don't mind getting ruined by chlorine in the pool - that way if his swimming stuff is wet you can just stick the t-shirt on

sweetheart · 20/06/2007 14:58

you might need a blanket too incase it's a bit chilly in the evenings - or you can use it to block him out if your trying to get him to sleep and there is lots going on around him.

Sunshinemummy · 20/06/2007 14:59

Mothercare do bracelets that are injected with insect repellent - they're really good.

Nip · 20/06/2007 15:47

Thank you so very much - my shopping list is now updated!

Would definitely say baby friendly insect repellent as we have just returned from two weeks in Italy and DD who is 15 months old was bitten on last day of hols and has ended up with impetigo infected bites!

Also def those sachets of calpol as she had v high temp one night and our travel gro-bag was good for when we were out in the evening and she (eventually) fell asleep in pushchair!

HTH- have a great time

PS our hire car was far more stressful than DD who was much easier than i expected

Thank you x
