Going to Croatia with Epilepsy

I would really like to visit Croatia especially Hvar on my next holiday but my sister is concerned as I have poorly controlled epilepsy- she's worried about what the healthcare may be like there.

I haven't had a seizure abroad at all but it is possible. Personally I think the hospitals are probably fine & I always take out comprehensive travel insurance. I won't be going away on my own, it will be with a friend.

Can anyone give advice - is Croatia ok?

Make sure you have good insurance (epilepsy action is a good starting point) make sure your travelling companion knows what to do - but yes they have decent medical care, just do make sure you travel with a credit card so if you do need treatment there's no delay, plus carry medical information including your prescriptions ideally translated (but English is widely spoken). You cannot eliminate risk but you also need to enjoy life - only you can weigh up these things. Epilepsy action message boards are more likely to have firsthand knowledge of Croatia, we haven't been there but friends with poorly controlled diabetes have and have used the health system

Hvar is an island so you might want to check medical facilities there and how easy a medical transfer to mainland is.

I've been and we loved it but it felt more behind than say Italy.

We didn't use the hospitals at all so I'd make sure you are near one or a decent medical centre which I'd imagine means being near a city.
Pula is supposed to be lovely I've not been to the southern tip.

Some of it is very remote to pick the location carefully.

Went to Crete last year & had to visit a clinic in a small town,as sister got badly stung it felt very chaotic & no one spoke English.
We left & went to a nearby dentist instead who spoke English and gave free advice & wrote a prescription for antibiotics.

I'm glad I didn't have a seizure there. It was a beautiful place but the infrastructure outside the main city was poor, no proper pavements etc. The main city was a 50 mile taxi ride away.

I will now have a google of Croatia & healthcare.
