NYC break

Got a last minute work trip to NYC next week & have tagged staying the weekend onto it. I have been before a few times & done most of the main sights, so wondering about any 'off the beaten tracks' suggestions.

Also, what's the best way to find out which shows are on & how to get tickets?

(Staying in Times Square). TIA.

Wow lucky you! I really enjoyed mooching about Williamsburg. Also check out milk and cookies in Greenwich village.

This also gives loads of good tips on how to get rush tickets:

If you're into art the Neue Gallerie on the Upper East Side is great - Austrian & German art - so Klimt & Shiele in particular. It has the Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer (Woman in Gold) and it is worth a trip for that alone. Also has amazing German cafe in beautiful room on the ground floor.
Jazz club of the Lincoln Centre, Dizzy's Jazz Club, not actually at the Lincoln Centre but in Columbus Circle.
Zabar's ("upmarket grocery store")- Upper West Side
Ganesvoort Market in the Meatpacking District (v near the lower end of the Highline)

Slightly different to the norm things we enjoyed were The Roosevelt Tram followed by a walk along the island looming back at Manhattan. We enjoyed eating ice cream and hanging out on the little beach on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn bridge. We also caught a Nets game at the Barclays Centre which was a great experience.

Chelsea market is nice, lots of good food options.
I also love Clinton St baking co (Lower East Side) but don’t even bother trying to go for brunch. They do all the brunch food at dinner when it’s quieter

Have a walk around Greenwich Village and SoHo. These areas have the lower buildings with the external fire escapes. Packed with great cafes. Walk the High Line. Go to the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side. Find some iconic buildings by doing your own architecture tour, eg the Flat Iron Building. Time Out is your friend for what’s on.
