Personally I wouldn't chance the Maldives at that time of year. There is absolutely nothing to do if the weather is bad. You might be lucky with the weather but no-one can predict it. The first time we went was in August and we had 10 days of lovely weather then it turned horrendous with an extremely bleak outlook for the rest of our stay, it was so bad we cut our losses, left and went elsewhere for the last 6 nights of our holiday.

@tryingtorun, I generally advise people not to go there during that time of year because it's monsoon season and very unpredictable. I went with my wife (now ex) at the end of July and we had 3 sunny days, 2 cloudy days and a couple of heavy rain that flooded our little paradise.
If you don't mind similar statistics, then the choice of island depends on your budget. Note that everything in the Maldives is imported so if you don't take an All Inclusive option, your costs for food / drink will end up being almost the price of your holiday if all teenagers are anything to go by.
If you're looking for sun at that time of year, you could consider the following (depending on your budget):

  1. Dubai
  2. Kenyan coast (Malindi, Mombasa)
  3. Vietnam

I went to be Maldives in July for my honeymoon and if I'd known the weather would be quite as bad I would of considered either changing my wedding month or honeymoon destination. We went for 10 days and I reckon only 4 of them were rain free and when it rains it absolutely floods the place. And like someone else mentioned there is nothing to do on wet weather as you reply on beach and pool entertainment. Weather aside it is an amazing place and snorkeling is a must but I would chose a different month if possible

OP if you are still around, there are over 100 resorts in the Maldives so a lot of research is advised. As Chris said, all inclusive is a must as it's really expensive for food and drink, including soft drinks. You can't take duty free alcohol in either. The last time we went to Lily Beach which has a high end all inclusive, it was amazing. Fantastic snorkelling and diving. One of our best holidays to date.

Thank you all so much for replying. We have also reached the same conclusion it's the wrong time of year! Anyway we have booked a holiday to Kenya and Zanzibar.
