Days out Nottingham - tomorrow!

Hi - I have a 6 year old and 4 year old and will be in Nottingham from tomorrow for a couple of days over halfterm. Any recommendations of days out please?
Wheel gate park has been recommended but trip advisor reviews don’t look that great - apparently it’s all a bit run down and not sure I want to pay £30-40 for that.
I read a review about Victoria embankment park and a children’s bike track/play road. Is that still around? Any good? Free to turn up without booking?

Any other recommendations welcome. Will be staying in Bilborough but have a car so can travel

Thanks!

Go to Wollaton Park as there's a dinosaur exhibition on! Meant to be amazing!!

It’s Jurassic Kingdom which we’ve already been to whilst it’s been in our home town. Thanks though! Any other recommendations?

Don't bother with wheelgate!

Wollaton still lovely for a look round even if you don't do the dinosaurs. Also Highgate park is nice.

How about the caves?

That park on the embankment is free and park on the side road between the park and the cafe (which never seems to be open!)

Another good, free park near there is in Ruddington, a country park with loads to do, around the lake there's a sensory play area, big play park area, over the bridge near the pay park but there's a load of small walks with all sorts of hand made wooden creatures (we call it the gruffalo woods) and a bit further still is a little mini maze. Next door is the transport museum is you're interested

Ruffled Abbey not far. They have a new adventure park and a largfe lake for feeding the ducks cafes etc. They have a monster trail on over half term. You only need to pay for parking

National video game arcade; Wollaton is worth a visit even without dinosaurs; cave tours under the city; Rufford abbey is great if you're driving; also Sherwood Pines.

Have a great time!

Oh yes, the park at Ruddington is great & you can often see trains. We call it Windy Park @flumpybear.

Thanks everyone!

And in case of rain which is the best (cleanest) soft play?

Caves.
In the broadmarsh shopping centre.

reallybadidea · 29/10/2018 10:55

The caves are good, although I note your children are still quite young. My 6 yo was terrified by some of the stories the guide told, had a meltdown and had to be carried out. Just a warning if your children are of a sensitive disposition!

(The 6 yo is now a strapping 19 yo young man, who still gets the piss taken by his siblings about that trip Grin)

angea09 · 29/10/2018 11:02

Thanks - think we will avoid the caves. 6 yr old DS is very sensitive. More so than 4 yr old DD!
