South Africa for a week in jan/feb - doable?

Have some annual leave unexpectedly left to use by end february, sadly only a week. Would like to go somewhere warm but nowhere where jet lag is going to be significant as for a week I suffer too much for it be worthwhile. Trailfinders website suggest they do 7 night trips to South Africa for in the region of £1.5k - £2 per person. Is this a realistic price and worth it going for just a week? If you know South Africa where would you go on a 7 day trip?

Yes. That’s fine because there is 2 hours time difference at the most. Cape Town is around 10 hours but you go overnight so you could go on a Friday evening and fly back the following Saturday overnight.

Cape Town and the Cape is great for a week buf you could also go along the coast to Gansbaai to see the sharks and also into the wine area of Stellenbosch and Franschoek if you hire a car. Going down the Cape requires a car too.

I highly recommend guest bourses in Cape Town. Some a very high class and give first class service. 4 Rosmead is exceptional but there are plenty of others. They help plan an itinerary for you and have recommended taxis etc. The Waterfront area is overrated so I wouldn’t stay there.

You could even drive along the Garden Route to Knysna and then drive into the Karoo and back to Cape Town. How adventurous are you?

You could go to Joburg and do a safari in Kruger. There are other areas you can combine with a safari.

Hope the above helps.

I did 8 days in SA last Feb. Absolutely brilliant so much so I’m going back this Feb too. We were in the Western Cape area, so much to do.
Your price of £1500 pp sounds realistic, that’s probably what we spent.

I did suffer with jet lag when I flew to SA & took a couple of days to recover but maybe that’s just me!

You can do it significantly cheaper than that for a week if you shop around for flights and things separately. Accommodation is very reasonable and car hire is cheap too.

Yes, but the beauty of SA is the wonderful places to stay. They are not at all expensive and if you have the budget to stay somewhere lovely, I would.

I’ve done exactly this the last three years in February. I agree with PP that you can do it cheaper by booking yourself and separately. I just booked Virgin LHR direct to Johannesburg with allocated seats for £550. I will be staying with friends but I have researched Air BnB and it’s way cheaper. Used it in Cape Town last year. Check out the Tripadvisor SA forums for advice on car hire which can be a bit of a minefield.
