We are hoping to take our grown up children 22, 25 and 26 for a really nice holiday next august.
Elder two are teachers so will be in the school holidays😢
Question is where?
We usually go to Europe with another family in villas and would like to change things up a bit plus the elder two are in serious relationships so will probably not want holidays with us after this.
I am driving myself mad looking at options.
We all like animals, wildlife scenery nice weather but does not need to be blisteringly hot.
We like nice food and wine.
Willing to drive during the day but not really at night.
They would like some nightlife.
We have been to the US a few times and the youngest is keen to return.
Looked at Costa Rica would this be a good option or Asia?
Would like it to be memorable.
Cost wise I'm not sure but willing to splash out a bit

I would say have a long holiday in Canada on the west coast. you can start in Vancouver and drive up through the rockies maybe take in the Calgary stampede. we went to Oregon this year which was very similar and did lots of outdoorsy stuff. all the California wine growers seem to be moving here due to the climate so lots of vineyards as well. first nations culture, painted hills, lakes and walks, mountains etc. message me for details on either of these happy to send out where we stayed etc.

Hi Futilityutility,
August is in the midlde of hurricane season around the Caribbean - so Costa Rica may be affected or best case, jsut some stormy weather here and there.
If you'd like two startling contrasts, may I suggest a 7 day Alaskan cruise from either Seattle or Vancouver followed by a week on the West Coast of California? Either the wine growing region and the Pacific Highway route or a week in San Diego or San Francisco?
You'd get adventure, nature, the vineyards, sunshine and nightlife all in one! I did this with my 3 children who are the same age as yours but this doesn't seem to stop them thinking of me as a walking ATM / Uber driver. If you're looking for other options:

  1. A luxury train journey from St Petersburg to Beijing
  2. Tigers and Reefs : A (hot) week in Rajasthan and a week in the Maldives, but expect variable weather due ot monsoon season
  3. A luxury tour of Iceland and Greenland - an extraordinary world of polar adventure, snowmobiling on glaciers, active volcanoes and geysers,
  4. A tour of Cuba - a stunning country with so much to see / do. Go before the Americans change it! Smile
  5. If the elder two like history, you could do a multi city tour of Jordan (Petra, ancient Christian, roman and Muslim architecture) followed by a week in Tela Aviv or Eilat in Israel.
  6. You could also do a safari in Kenya, Botswana, South Africa for a week followed by a beach holiday in Zanzibar, Mombasa or Seychelles (but also wet season there too)
  7. A tour of either Vietnam, Cambodia or Laos
  8. As Mummymeister suugests, the Canadian West Coast is spectacular and you could do a week's touring followed by an Alaskan cruise.
  9. You could also tour Nepal, Burma or Mynamar.
10. A more relaxing option may be a luxury Baltic or Mediterranean cruise where you experience incredible history, culture and food / wine both on board and on the ship. I think it depends on how much time you want to spend together vs doing your own thing and what your interests are. Let me know if I can help and best of luck with what sounds like a great experience together that everyone will remember Smile. Chris

I think some of the Asian recommendations may be a bit wet weather wise. The following areas tend to be dry in the summer:
Malaysian Borneo and Brunei - personally prefer Sarawak to Sabah
Vietnam - Hue and Hoi An have good weather then, but can get very, very hot, but ime the food in Vietnam is fabulous.

Indonesia - Java or Bali

Luang Prabang in Laos - may be wetter in other areas

Hurricanes don't normally get as far South as Costa Rica so it's very unlikely to be affected. It would be rainy season in August though if that's when you're looking? We went there August 2 years ago & while we had a thunderstorm daily in the afternoon, really didn't ruin our holiday & it's a beautiful country with an abundance of wildlife. Felt pretty safe & the food was pretty good.

What about a safari in Kenya and then down to Mombassa/Dianni beach for some chill time?

We are heading to Namibia and then Zambia next August. Great variety of scenery and wildlife. It’s the peak time as not blisteringly hot and the animals are at waterholes as it’s the dry season. We are doing a self drive.

Oh my goodness
I have been away this week and have only just seen these wonderful replies.
Thank you all so much for the suggestions.
I am really interested in Borneo or perhaps Canada.
I hadn't even thought of a cruise but will take a look.
Vancouver sounds fabulous
Thankyou all what great food for thought
