Ethiopia while pregnant

Hi, I've just found out that I'm pg but due to travel to Ethiopia in 2 weeks. Has anyone travelled there while pregnant before? What's your experience? Considering whether to cancel. I'm more worried about the high altitude than the illnesses.

How long will you be in Ethiopia?
Is it for work or holiday?
What will you be doing there?
How pregnant are you?

I spent my entire pregnancy (except a couple of weeks) in Nairobi, Kenya and it was fine.
I imagine you will be OK. Drink bottled water,be careful with food.

Thanks. It's a two week holiday travelling around the north (It's meant to be our honeymoon!) Very early days... will be 7/8 wks when due to travel.

What might be a problem is traveling around. I suspect that Ethiopia will be similar to Kenya and Tanzania in that the roads will be unpaved and you will spend a lot of time bouncing up and down.

Oh yeah. Great point!

Zika and malaria would be the main issues, I would think.

www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk/destinations/africa/ethiopia good advice always on this website. I assume that you have had all of the immunisations that they recommend?

Its on the list for Zika so I just wouldn't risk it if I am honest. Although you can take all the precautions in the world its incredibly easy to get bitten and then you will be worrying throughout your pregnancy which is not what it should be like at all.

I know other people will come on and say that the risk is incredibly small which I accept but the worry would do my head in. holidays to far flung off the beaten track are all well and good but not if pregnant or TTC in my view. do you have insurance so that you can cancel? it would be a legitimate reason I would have thought.

Surely if all is well with your health you'll be fine. Are there no pregnant women in Ethiopia? Get necessary jabs and enjoy. If you do get morning sickness, it might bother you regardless of where you are
