Is there such a thing as anywhere decent to eat in Blackpool? Apart from McDonalds, a greasy spoon or the chippy?

dd1 wants to see a horse and carriage () so we are going to Blackpool on Saturday to ride in one.

We want to have lunch and imo it is a pit of despair iirc

on the front anyway

anyone local (who I haven't completely insulted yet) got any tips?

just bog standard good pub food would be ok, no chips and nuggets

am not asking for organice locally grown mung beans, just proper food that doesn't swim in its own grease

I am not here today, I am a mirage so will be back later

Thank you!

xx

this is a non starter isn't it?

"can I have 2 Happy Meals, a hamburger and a Big Mac please"

I can see it now (sigh)

We do Blackpool about once a year as our children (5 & 8) are fairground fans, we've eaten a couple of times at a place directly opposite the south pier. The entrance is downstairs but you go straight upstairs and the dining room was on the first floor and looked out over the sea front. It is std pub fare from what i remember, pasta, fish n chips, curry, steak etc but really nice, sorry i cant remember name!

Hulababy · 14/06/2007 20:43

We didn't find anything decent lookimg. Ended up with good old fish and chips on the front!

SweetyDarling · 14/06/2007 21:02

There was that place that Gordon Ramsay went and helped on his show. Sorry - can;t remember any more than that!

oliveoil · 14/06/2007 21:33

oh Theresa that sounds ok, proper pub food

will have a mooch about and see

I believe that the Gordon Ramsay restaurant shut down

Anyway, do you want somewhere in the centre or outside (there are quite a few nice pubs outside of the centre)

There is also a Harry Ramsdens in the centre - which if you wanted good fish and chips, should do the trick.

oliveoil · 14/06/2007 21:38

well I am planning on going in, finding the damn horse, going on a ride and then running as far away quickly, so somewhere on the front really

which leaves me with 0 choices iirc

can NOT be arsed taking sandwiches, did all that for 3 days in Wales last weekend and am on strike

There is a nice 'diner' type restaurant just by the pleasure beach

Also a pizza hut which may be preferable to McD's - oh and also a Bella Pasta type place - all within yards of the front

oliveoil · 14/06/2007 21:44

ahhhh Bella Pasta okish

dh will no doubt moan but he is a food snob

thank you!

Have to admit that Blackpool really isn't the place for a food snob

oliveoil · 14/06/2007 21:49

lol

oh he is a pain

TBH I think you and DH need to get over yourselves. It is a day out in Blackpool for the girls, fish and chips from the front would be fine. And I don't even like fish and chips.

oliveoil · 14/06/2007 21:53

I like the idea of fish and chips

reality is somewhat different

they would love McDonalds tbh [wank]

(and that was on purpose)

We went to frankie and bennys and enjoyed it there.

Olive - if you are right in the Town Centre, there are loads of pubs you can go and eat in. Won't be exciting, but will be the Wacky Warehouse typ food where you know exactly what it will look like before you get it.
If you can find Birley Street (in town centre, has Barclays Bank on it) there is a lovely sandwich shop called The Peppermill you can eat in.
(Hello Bozza! We must meet up in Blackpool one day!)

bozza · 14/06/2007 22:09

I would love to judd, you stranger!

puffling · 15/06/2007 19:51

Lytham's just a few minutes drive. There's a lovely Italian restaurant and really nice teas shops.

bozza · 17/06/2007 21:29

So where and what did you eat (besides the sugar snap peas, that is)?
