Hi

10 hours to Vancouver with a 4.5yo and a VERY active 1.5yo. Help! How do I keep them quiet and generally not kill them. The youngest doesn't really get telly and we'll be in the cheap seats so won't have much space. Ideas please, I'm panicking.

For the eldest - a portable DVD player + NEW DVDs as well as old ones. Activity books, audio stories.

For the youngest - a pack of stickers and stick them all over the arms and legs (over clothes or not!) - should result in a while of unpicking! Story books, fav blanket / sleep 'mate', (dummy if you use + soother saver), if not a dummy take sweets / food they can eat on take off and landing to help with ears popping with the change of air pressure.

mmmmm will think some more.

Take all food and drinks!

Take all food and drink for them onto the plane (as long as the liquid is in a container not more than 100ml you'll be okay). As Califrau rightly points out do not rely on the airline to provide meals for your children. I would add as well that sometimes such meals are far from tasty and can be inedible. These also do not arrive long before the adult meals are served up which can be at least an hour into the flight.

Would certainly second the DVD player and the stickers. Would change your youngest's child nappy before you board the aircraft.

If you are using a pushchair/stroller tie something brightly coloured and inexpensive onto the handle (we used a sock) for easier identification. Hopefully you will be able to collect this in the jetway upon deplaning the aircraft - ask though!!.
