New Year's Eve on holiday?

Hoping to go away for a week somewhere warmish in December - after Chistmas, but over New Year. We're a family of 4, 2 kids aged 8 and 6.

I'm leaning towards AI which we've never done before and wondered whether anyone had been on an AI holiday over New Year, what to expect in terms of New Year's 'event' and whether they'd recommend it. (Normally I'd be in bed by midnight, but fancy doing something different this year!)

Open to other New Year's Eve recommendations that are not AI as well.

Thanks

Could you repeat the question and reiterate exactly what it is you're after? I'm not clear.

spinabifidamom · 29/09/2018 23:14

Do you have any ideas? Me and my partner so far have discussed it briefly and we eventually decided to have a party at a local restaurant in town for NYD. Also could you please repeat the question for clarification thank you? It’s worth looking at any events being held in the area in addition.

A couple of additional questions below:

What do you mean? What do you have in mind?

I think a lot depends on where you want to go and what the country or even the hotel plans are.

If you say warm I assume you mean either long haul or Canary Islands? No idea about the general country thoughts about NYE it I would think that most hotels do have some kind of party.

Thanks for the replies so far...(and sorry for posting the original question so many times....it would appear if a message doesn't post, the answer is not to hit CTRL + Enter angrily multiple times.....lesson learned!)

We are thinking of Canaries, Morocco, Malta or Madiera (possibly Mexico). Not really fussed on location, would just like it to be warm(ish). We would likely be going for one of the all inclusive resorts on tui, thomas cook, first choiec etc. I wondered if anyone has been on this type of holiday over New Year and what the New Year 'event' was like? Any recommendations?

We have been to Florida over New year and it was fantastic. Lots of fireworks displays, live bands on the beach etc. we stayed in florida keys. the weather was excellent. Not really sure that the places you have named would have that good weather at that time of year OP. use the website accuweather, put in a town and see what the temps were last year. Its going to be expensive where ever you go and I would think it worth going further afield to get the good weather.

We went to Lanzarote for new year 2016 and it was lovely - about 23 degrees - so warm, but not hot. At the hotel we stayed at (Sandos Papagayo in Playa Blanca), they had 'gala dinners' on for NYE, which was fairly irrelevant to us with DC aged 7 & 4. It was nice not to have to cook though! I can't remember what entertainment there was (we're not really evening entertainment people!) and I remember some fairly lacklustre fireworks at midnight, but I tell you what - it was just so nice to be away from grey, dark England for a week. That, for me, made going there for NY lovely - not NY itself, just getting away to the sunshine in the middle of the darkest time of year. HTH.

Thanks. It doesn't look like Florida is possible through Tui etc. around Christmas. Maybe sold out already.

I'll look at Lanzarote - I've been before, Tenerife also, so would ideally go somewhere new, but take your point about the weather.

I’ve had 2 New Years in Tenerife now. Stayed at the Bitacora Hotel which was good for children. There was a gala dinner then a new year’s party and fireworks on NYE. Weather on both occasions was warm enough to spend New Year’s Day by the pool.

It is very expensive at that time of year compared to other weeks though.
