Would you take a 7 month old baby to sharm-el-sheikh in October?

Hi all,
I’m wanting to take my baby on holiday next month he will be 7 months old before I go back to work, what are everyone’s thoughts on taking a baby to sharm? I’ve been a few times and never had any issues with the food/water or being ill however A babies immune system isn’t as strong as an adults, I will be taking pre-made formula so I don’t have to worry about getting the correct water, I am also currently weaning my baby, I would really appreciate people’s thoughts on this before I book. Thanks

As far as I am aware you can't fly direct anymore from the UK. But even if you could - no way. I hated it. The hotel was nice but I still was ill and Naama Bay did not feel safe in the slightest

I've got family there and i would say no ! My mum has a house there and she wont allow ds to visit until he is older - he's 4.
I Don't want to scare you but in a worse case scenario the medical facilities are very, very poor.

I used to go regularly, diving. Its changed a lot recently and I wouldn't take my older children there now, or go myself. Mainky because of the food poisoning/hygiene which seems to be universal now (I used to get a bit ill, inevitably, but everyone I know thats been in the last few years has had severe food poisoning, across the board). But also because it doesnt feel very safe in the public areas, very visible heavy handed security. Im not easily scared or put off and have taken my kids to some crazy places, but that just seems too risky to me.

@Singlenotsingle I disagree - we took our six month old away recently and while she probably didn't appreciate it as such she certainly seemed to enjoy herself (maybe more than at home!) She got loads of attention everywhere she went, had lots of different things to look at, went swimming every day and slept better than at home. She barely cried even on the plane. She didn't seem to care about not having her usual things but we took some familiar books and toys and her sleeping bag etc

I'd probably not want to take a newborn though.

Can't comment on Sharm, we went to the Canaries

When I say went swimming - she obviously didn't "swim" but she splashed and giggled and looked around

Agreed. I tool my babies all over the place. I think its good for them. I'd choose soemwhere nicer/less risky that sharm though.

Absolute shit hole! No WAY!

MarthasGinYard · 13/10/2018 21:50

No

I wouldn't recommend anyone going there

No, sun is strong, water is dodgy, food questionable - even if you take in food (check laws on bringing it in) and you breastfeed, what if you get a bug? Canaries are a safer bet, but I would stick to Northern Europe - I travelled a decent amount at that age, they are quite portable, but we always drove, too much stuff to fly (we lived in the US so lots of scope)

No it's the only holiday I've had ever where I've had food poisoning, so us really worry about a young baby

We have British nationals dying in Egyptian hotels and so many more complaining of terrible food poisoning - even in the “5star” resorts.

No way would I go there myself never mind a small baby - and I took my daughter all over the place. Friends of mine went in May. Their first trip abroad in 11 years although they had been seasoned travellers until they had their child. Friend was utterly frustrated with me saying to her that there’s so many more places to go, why go somewhere that’s high risk for terrorist attacks etc. Anyway, she went and was fine - her husband and 11 yr old DD. spent five out of seven days vomiting and shitting through the eye of a needle. Great holiday.

Egypt is cheap for a reason!!

Sorry, but I think you must be mad to even consider it. Food poisioning and terrorists- great holiday combination!
