Going to Bruges in autumn with dh and 2 dc's both primary age. I get sea sick - will I be ok on a ferry? I've never been on one but small boats make me very queasy! Also, please could someone recommend a family friendly hotel for when we are there? Preferably with a pool? Thank you.

I get really sea sick (really ironic considering my Dads family were all sailors) but managed the ferry without hurling. Maybe take a travel sickness pill & try to put it to the back of your mind? The weather in Bruges is similar to ours so you'd need an indoor pool - the majority of hotels in Bruges are in the city and are historic buildings so while I've not looked, I'm not sure you'd find many with pools. My DR really liked Bruges - think she dragged us into every chocolate shop cadging the free samples (& there's loads of chocolate shops!)! Other pro's for her were the Chocolate & Chip museums, canal boat ride, carriage ride & the (weird) Historium. She also liked that every single restaurant had nuggets & chips as the kids option - it was a really unhealthy but happy holiday!

If you get seasick have you considered getting the train?

Are you going North Sea or channel?
I've been on North Sea ferries a few times and it can be a bit rough in the autumn. The ships are bigger than channel ferries though so you are less likely to be sea sick.
I doubt whether there are many hotels in Bruges with a pool.

We stayed at the Hotel Navarra the first time we ever went and it was lovely - right in the centre with an indoor pool and parking. We looked for October half term but it is very pricey now unfortunately. The Novotel is a bit cheaper but also has a pool and is meant to be good.

Thanks all. We live too far north to go via train, otherwise I would definitely be doing that! Still not sure whether to brave the possibility of sea sickness! Will check out the hotels mentioned above.

The Novotel is lovely, and well located, and kid friendly, however the pool is an outdoor one, so I wouldn't be expecting to use it this unless you are particularly hardy. They do have a nice kids play area by the reception/bar area though.

Is this the Hull to Zeebrugge ferry? You realise it'd be way faster to go by train?
