Am taking dd1 (12) to Londn for a couple of days in the summer, just the two of us. Does anybody have any must do recommendations please? Things to do? Nice places to eat - especially middle eastern or veggie.

We've done the London Eye several times, so won't bother with that. Will almost certainly pop over to the V & A fashion bit - will the Kylie exhibition still be on then?

She's into fashion in a big way, photography and could stand an art gallery for an hour or so!

For healthy fast food try Leon's . Good vegetarian choice.

Fab suggestions so far; keep 'em coming please! Especially ones that are easy to get to - I've been to London a fair few times but am still a country bumpkin at heart!

some suggestions here

PrettyCandles · 10/06/2007 06:58

Tate Modern always seems to have something for everyone.

janeite · 10/06/2007 17:30

Oh the Photography museum mentioned on that other thread looks good so thanks for that WWW. Tate Modern is another good suggestion, although we've been before. Am I right in thinking that it is walking distance from The Globe?

What about shopping? Don't much fancy Oxford Street - is there anywhere else that a 12 year old demi-Emo / Top Shop lover might appreciate? We're there midweek, so I think Camden might not be an option?

if you could bear it (cause i cant!) just go to the flagship topshot on oxford street, then when it gets all too much jump on bus to hyde park / edgeware rd for food!
what about portobello road ..midweek will be quieter but cafes and shops and sleb spotting?

globe is just walk from tate modern same sid of river, its all signposted...

janeite · 11/06/2007 19:07

I'm sure she'd love the Topshop, Suzy but not sure I could stand it! Portobello sounds nice; not been there - what kind of shops are there?

I think The Globe/Tate walk sounds nice. Any good places to eat round there?

Bump bump for the Monday evening crowd. The more ideas the better please!

Checking hotel

Have dinner and drinks at Hotel Restaurant

Saturaday am

Breakfast in bed

Hit the shops: Liberty, Selfridges etc..

Saturday pm

Dinner at Hakassan

Grab a taxi and go to Tower Bridge, walk along South Bank all the way to Covent Garden.

Sunday am

Breakfast in bed

Walk in Hyde Park walk in Portobello

ah, I would love to have a job planning peoples weekends!!!!

Have fun!!

suzycreamcheese · 11/06/2007 20:12

portobello...bit antiques...interesting clothes..cafes and relaxed feel..
i knew it much better years ago.
iirc..portobello green covered market has handmade clothes stalls and second hand things..off beat bits etc....

notting hill gate..or ladbroke grove tube or the 52 from victoria..

Batgirl11 · 12/06/2007 17:30

Camden Market. Loads of great stuff to buy, and some great places to eat, all in one hit!

janeite · 12/06/2007 21:29

Great idea - she'd love it Batgirl. But is it open on weekdays, or just at weekends?

OP posts:
suzycreamcheese · 13/06/2007 13:55

camden market only weekends cause that rules out spitalfields & brick lane too, only sundays..which you both might have enjoyed..

..what about serpentine gallery in hyde park which is a walk from top of end oxford st for shopping... it has selfridges with large top shop et al
and you are still near edgeware road for middle eastern food..?

park has lots cafe boating diana memorial etc if thats your bag..

janeite · 13/06/2007 17:14

Am totally convinced by Edgeware Road now - any particular recs?

What's the shopping like in Covent Garden? Or near the V & A?

OP posts:
KTeePee · 13/06/2007 17:21

The restaurant at the National portrait Gallery is supposed to be good - but not open in the evening I think...

For shopping near the V&A I would hop on a bus (or get a taxi if you're flush) and go to the Kings Road or High Street Ken

suzycreamcheese · 13/06/2007 21:07

ahh good..you will enjoy..my first port of call would be Rannoush Juice, on first block of Edgeware Road (left hand side) coming up from hyde park that it is)..
great juice, great food, cafe style (there are plenty more middle eastern restuarants there too) and it is specifically lebanese...

covent garden, there's plenty to do & see & buy.. mix of shops mainly clothes, nice to wander in nearby streets or china town too and it is near also to Photographer's Gallery, newport street which also has lunch cafe at very reasonable prices (esp for london) rolls, cakes, juices etc but nicely done...

janeite · 17/06/2007 15:18

Sounds fab! So we'll definitely go to the Photographers' gallery and Covent Garden. The V & A - need to check if the Kylie exhibition is still on or not but will go anyway. High Street Kensington - never been there, so may be worth a look. Or is it too posh for the likes of moi?
