I have saved for 3 years to take lovely DS to NYC when he finishes his GCSEs Grin. I am so excited.

He will be 16, he is very academically minded and loves reading, science, good food etc. I need my own bed (lots of the hotels seem to have 1 small double and DS is very tall and I have arthritis and throw myself around a lot at night). Any ideas very much appreciated.

He has wanted to go since he was 5 and has NO IDEA I have saved up.

I am so excited. Can anyone help? I have travelled extensively but never been to NY, it's all new to me.

Any advice

I think American hotel rooms all have 2 beds? They did when we were booked 4 years ago. I second trying BA.com - we stayed at the Waldorf Astoria and got an absolute bargain!

I’m so happy you started this thread! We go next month. I’ll report back Smile

OP how on Earth have you managed to keep it a secret for so long? And. Aren’t you bursting to tell him after this thread?

I believe some of the museums have a free late night on Fridays - best to check.

Positives - I agree with all who say use BA flight & hotel deal, good value and it's classed as a 'package' rather than just flight and hotel should anything go wrong. Make sure you book a room with 2 x bedsGrin.

Negatives - I hate to 'rain on your parade' but we took DS (nearly 16) in last week of June 2018, the average daily temperature was about 98'F with very high humidity...hideous (an endurance exercise rather than a 'holiday').

Do you really think Brexit will impact flights to the US? This is months later but I thought only Europe would be effected

It's related to Open Skies agreement which we have as part of the EU. If we Brexit with no agreement then we have to negotiate our own Open Skies agreement with everyone to allow the planes and pilots to be insured etc, not just EU flights but all of our airports! Hopefully even if there's no deal (God forbid) it would be sorted out by the time you're planning to go, but they way the world is at the moment, who knows.

MOMA. Museum of Modern Art is free on Friday evenings. It gets very busy though.

Look out for free concerts and plays in Central Park too.

Free concerts in Bryant Park too

The Tenement Museum really is absolutely amazing. Afterwards, wander round the Lower East Side which was my favourite part of the city.

Arturio's for fab pizza.
