.....dp and I have a few child-free hours in Bristol on fri night whilst they see C.C.bangbang. It will be from 7pm till about 10 I guess, and we don't know what to do. Indian restaurant is a possibility, or a drink somewhere where we can chat and people-watch (too old for noise!).
Any ideas?

what about something liek the spyglass? relaxed Mediterranean style restuarant on the waterfront
Never been there myself but heard good things.

Seems quite relaxed and you can look out over the docks and the waterfront. Close to the hippodrome as well so not to much time wasted travelling.

Also nearby (practically adjacent) are the Llandogger trow and the old Duke, both nice very old pubs to finish off at. By the old Vic (so 5 minute walk from Hippodrome). Old Duke is a Jazz pub if you like that kinda thing (not sure if they've anything playing that night) and Llandogger is very nice ancient pub.
Both have tables outside on the cobbled street and you can still see the water from them.

Right, if the weather is nice (which it looks like it will be) I would suggest the waterfront, lots of nice bars that have outdoor seating, pitcher and piano etc. None of them should be too crazy at tht time of night, tends to be more raucous after 10.30ish.

Not sure about an Indian restaurant, there are 2 nice places to eat in the Harbourside bit, the firehouse (slightly pricey but lovely) and las iguanas (mexican)

Oooh yes, King Street is great and nearby

Slacker · 07/06/2007 12:37

DH went to this restaurant recently and said it was fab. Also on the harbourside is the Firehouse rotisserie which is nice.

Thanks everyone...and a bump for the evening crowd.

I would have a walk along the waterfront and then see what takes your fancy

pammo · 08/06/2007 20:04

I would recommend the restaurant here www.bordeaux-quay.co.uk/ - fab food, need to book though.

HenriettaHippo · 08/06/2007 20:07

Or if you really want to push the boat out, go to the Hotel du Vin (although might be booked...).

HenriettaHippo · 08/06/2007 20:25

On a Friday, I'd book if I were you. We tried last summer to take a wander and go somewhere we fancied. Couldn't get a table anywhere!

WestCountryLass · 08/06/2007 22:19

Oh no HH, nightmare, chips for you was it? Though granted I have not been out on a Friday night for ages

cadelaide · 09/06/2007 11:42

Oh, but we had a lovely time. We strolled about and had a drink and then ended up at the Firehouse rotisserie. Wish we had longer really, dcs were out of the theatre by 10pm.
They also had a fab time.
Btw, impressed by the number of people out with babies at that time of night, most inspiring!
Thanks everyone, nice to be reminded how good Bristol is.
