I am just back from ours, and already thinking about next year. Would love to hear what people liked/disliked about theirs, especially those who went shorthaul for 4k or ideally very much less!

#1 Cyprus (Protaras). Lovely modern resort with brilliant beaches, lots of shops/restaurants, etc., on a wonderful Island. Highlight was crossing the "border" into Turkish occupied Cyprus for a tour around Famagusta (or what's left of it). Close to Ayia Napa for nightlife and water park. Yes, I'd definitely return and recommend it. I've been to Cyprus many times and love it.

#2 Sitges (near Barcelona). Lovely beaches, a bit of history, very handy for Barcelona (regular train), also for history (Tarragona). It was OK, lovely beaches, handy for Barcelona (regular train), handy for history (inc Tarragona). But a bit too "residential", i.e. more of a residential suburb of Barcelona than a holiday resort, and lots of holiday homes where Spaniards come for their weekends. That meant it was hellish busy at the weekends but deathly quiet during the week. Shops & restaurants are also more geared up for locals than tourists, so plenty of Tapas bars etc but few souvenir shops and pubs! OK if you want to embrace the local style of living, but not really a typical holiday resort. No, we're glad we've been, but spent most of our time in Barcelona and visiting other places, wouldn't go back there.
