Could anyone please recommend some goodies for a 5 day Amsterdam itinerary with the little Greeps? They are quite history and art tolerant and like a bit of a shop browse but do need exercise and leg stretching. A few restaurant, cafe and playground recs would be great too. We are hanging out while Mr Greeps does his thing and I haven't the first idea what to do with them. Obv Anne Frank house but no other plans. Very much hoping Tracelab will pop up as have seen her lovely blog, (dreaming of a tailor made itinerary Grin!)

Hello Smile

I haven't been on Mumsnet for ages and first time I log in for what feels like months - BOOM - I saw your message

I'm very flattered that you've enjoyed the blog so much and I'd be delighted to help.

Why don't you message me via the AmsterdamWonderland Facebook page which is a much easier messaging tool than Mumsnet. Just back from another week in the city and adding new recommendations to the blog all the time.

The Nemo Science museum is very child-friendly and hands-on.

The Vondelpark is the park to end all parks. It's simply amazing for kids.
A fun pancake restaurant for children ages 5- 12 years is the KinderKookKafe (Kids Cook Café) located near the Vondelpark. It's family restaurant that is run entirely by children: they cook, serve, bring the bill and wash up, all with a little help from adults. You can leave the children in the afternoon and when you come back, you can all try what the children have prepared. While the children are there, they are taught how to cook and serve food. The food is simple, the prices are affordable. www.kinderkookkafe.nl/the-kinderkookkafe/ The staff speak good English.
And for another pancake adventure try cruising around the former Amsterdam harbour enjoying all you can eat pancakes on the infamous Pancake boat. You can cruise around for an hour or a longer 2.5 hour cruise. Just keep in mind Wednesday afternoons are reserved for parties.
The Blue Boat Company’s canal cruises have a pirate-themed audio guide for kids. It's an interactive audio story with a booklet with games, pencils & a pair of real pirate-binoculars and is included with every children’s ticket.
TunFun in the old Jewish Quarter is a large underground playground with slides, trampolines and climbing apparatus, for children aged 1–12. Activities include gymnastics, bowling and indoor football, and there’s plenty of equipment to clamber into, under and over. It's quite easy to get to and near the Botanic Garden.

Hi there - I have just been with similar aged kids. Echo the comments from PPs but a few words of warning - the level of porn and cannabis souvenirs in shops is huge and I was genuinely surprised how much the central streets smelt of dope. I would stick more to areas outside of the very centre.

Greeper · 05/09/2018 23:38

Hi, thanks all. Lots to do. Wary of the dope and porn aspect, we will try to steer clear! Nemo, windmills and pancakes all sound great. And will do, Tracelab.. thanks

Hi there, I've just come back from a two week trip to Amsterdam with my 3 kids and had a brilliant time! I've written a blog post with out top ten Amsterdam things to do with kids you might be interested in
museummum.com/2018/09/28/top-10-things-to-do-in-amsterdam-with-kids/
We didn't come across any porn and only the odd waft of cannabis, but we did mostly stay away from the centre and do other things instead. Happy to answer any questions or make other recommendations.
