Booking flights to NYC . Which airport is most convenient to fly into, how much does it cost and how easy is it to get from airports into the city? We will be staying some nights in Clinton hill area Brooklyn and some in Manhattan.

I've never been before and am very excited!

No idea which is the most convenient but just flown into Newark - $15 dollars on train from airport gets you into Penn Station NY - took 30 mins. It was $85 dollars in cab from Times Square for journey back to airport.

JFK is usually easiest to get in/out of. You can get the LIRR/subway or there are buses that take you straight to manhattan, but not sure if there are any airport transfer buses direct to Brooklyn. JFK is the right side for Brooklyn rather than Newark which is in Jersey.

Sky scanner is a really useful website as you can check prices and monitor prices by setting alerts for the flights you want. And you can compare for each airport in NYC.

I've flown to JFK and found it easy on several occasions, I found Newark quite stressful as it's a longer transfer and found the airport generally slow.

Newark again have direct bus transfers and a train to manhattan, but is further than from JFK.

There are no flights to La Guardia from the UK. It's more for internal flights.

Last year I flew with Norwegian Air to Stewart airport in upstate New York. They had buses there to take you direct to the city. The transfer was quite long (90min) but the flights were so cheap (£100pp each way) that for us at the time it was worth it. We're currently pricing up flights for next spring (we have family there) and it's about £340pp return direct to JFK with virgin.

Enjoy your trip, New York is fab! Smile

If you’re flying internationally then you have either JFK or Newark airports (there’s also La Guardia which is closer to Manhattan but it’s domestic only).

JFK is the larger airport and has more flights (including to/from the UK). You can take the Air Train to Jamaica and then the Long Island Railroad to get to Brooklyn, will be less than $10. Alternatively get a taxi or an Uber. There’s a flat taxi fare to Manhattan which including tolls and tax is about $70.

Newark I’d avoid if you’re staying in Brooklyn unless you get some amazing flight deal there. It’s the other side of Manhattan to Brooklyn so will be a longer transfer. I’ve also only been there once many years ago so don’t remember much except that we got a cab into the city.

I’d fly into JFK. You can take a fixed price cab from the airport to downtown, I forget the price but it’s about $55/60. If you are 4 people, it’s cost effective. Not so much if you are on your own!

Just flown recently on Norwegian airlines, cheap and great planes. jfk is only about 20-30 mins drive to Brooklyn.

Enjoy, it's a fab city

If you’re staying in Manhattan, Newark is definitely more convenient if you’re planning to use the train. The airport has a station and you arrive straight into Penn station in Midtown. You can get the train from JFK, it’s not difficult but it’s not as straight forward and involves a change. Have a great time!
