Where to go in February with 18 month old?

We've been considering an all inclusive in the canaries but worried that dp and I will hate it, we like local type places, trying local food, a mix of relaxing and sightseeing. Will an AI be too 'Brits abroad'?
On the other hand DD will probably love it and if she's happy we're happy. She needs a lot of entertaining. Or is there anywhere in the UK we could go with lots of things do do indoors in Feb? Thanks for any suggestions.?

I'm a big fan of AI with young children (it wasn't my thing at all pre dcs!) as I find them very easy. I suppose in general the cheaper the holiday, and those hotels in resorts traditionally popular with Brits, will be more 'Brits Abroad', TripAdvisor is your friend here for assessing the situation (common complaints for hotels I have looked at include food being geared towards the Spanish or kids entertainment in German etc). Personally I find there is a benefit with hotels with a large proportion of British guests - lots of kids my dd can play with because of the mutual language and kids entertainment being in English.

You're not locked into AI resorts, you can still sightsee and visit local restaurants but it might not be best value of money to pay AI if you're planning on eating out a lot (but conversely it sometimes can!). You could do something like sc/b&b/hb in a hotel rather than a villa etc. That way you'd get the kids entertainment (pool with other children to play with, playground, maybe a soft play, cheesy kid entertainment if you stay in a kid friendly hotel) plus not feel like you have to eat at the hotel because you have pre-paid.

We went to Gran Canaria when our DS was just a little bit older than your DD, and got an apartment right by the city beach at Las Palmas.

It worked pretty well - there were plenty of restaurants and cafes near by, and our DS loved the science museum, but there were a lot of locals.

We did a day trip to the resorts. Our DS loved the Angry Birds theme park and we did a cruise, but it was very Brits Abroad and we were glad we didn't stay there the whole time.
