Has anyone stayed there? We are booked in to stay there in October.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about the kids club, DD1 is 3 years and dd2 2 years. Is it suitable for their age group? Did you feel comfortable leaving kids their while you did your own thing for a bit?

forgot to say extremely child friendly, they are welcome in most places, all the shopping malls have play areas, softplay areas for the babies and ball pits and rides for the older ones.

Hi Dubaimum, thanks for the info! Can you tell me whether Dubai Zoo is worth a visit or recommend any 'must see' or 'must do' sites around Dubai or close by? I think we will do a half day city tour but not sure yet what else. The boys will be 10 and 7 when we travel.
One other quick question concerns appropriate clothing. I think I read somewhere that ladies shouldn't have bare shoulders (except at the pool/beach). Is that true? Most of my Tshirts have straps but no sleeves. Do I need to go shopping ?
Thanks again.

DelGirl · 03/10/2004 19:03

hedgehog - yes, women do have to wear tops with the shoulders covered, cap or short sleeved t-shirt's are ok.

dubaimum · 04/10/2004 06:50

Hedghog, have never been to Dubai Zoo as not recommended (sp?) by people that have been, there is a big bus tour company here went on with my mum and ds last year, very interesting from my point of view, there is the dubai museum only a couple of dirhams to go in and the bus tour stops there, Wild Wadi your kids will love that, the gold souk (make sure dh as credit card with him) and spice souk. There is a new souk just opened paying a visit next weekend so will let you know what it is like. Highly recommend desert safari, should be able to arrange one through the hotel concierge, driving throught the desert in a 4x4 amazing, then bbq, belly dancer, henna painting, camel rides.....all our visitors have been on one and loved it. And then there is Karama, this is where all the "genuine fakes" are sold burberry, L.V. gucci, prada, etc..but watch out some are excellent quality and some just rubbish, just have to shop around, my mil loves it there (fil babysits those days) and usually has a shopping list for folks back home!!!
As for the bare shoulders, etc. it just depends where you are, I have certainly worn vest type tops, the hotel and beach and swimming pool etc are okay, most shopping malls okay too, just if you are going to traditional places, ask the hotel for advice. HTH

Thanks for all the info Dubaimum and DelGirl. Desert safari sounds great! Have fun at the new souk.

allthegirls · 06/10/2004 21:35

HI
Thanks for all that info dubaimum. Is the desert 4 by 4 excursiuon any goo with the kids. We had ruled it out thinking it wouldn't be suitable but if you could let me know that would be great! DDs are 2 and 3 years old.

Cant wait for the holiday only 2 days to go!! Just closed the suitcase minus a few bits which will have to go as hand luggage. Suitcase was a very tight squeeze but I refuse to take two as I want to buy a cheap case in hong kong and fill it up with more stuff over there!!!

The reason I choose to go to Hong Kong Hedgehog is my parents live out there. They have lived there for 5 years now but are leaving in a couple of months so this will be our last visit. Hong Kong is a fantastic place and my parents live in the New Terrotories so we get to stay in the beautiful countryside and then go off to the hustle and bustle as we please.
I will let you know all about the jumeirah Beach Hotel on my return in 3 weeks time. i am pretty sure it will live up to its expectations!! i have been reading some reviews on it and all are fantastic!!

Going to go and finish my handluggage packing off now and sort out lots of good books for the beach!!

we took our ds on the dessert safari, took his carseat with us so he would be safe, but he didn't like it very much but older kids love it, he was 2 1/2 at the time, it just depends on them really, a friend of mine took her 2 yr old and he loved it!!

Happy holiday

hedghog · 07/10/2004 23:35

Have a fantastic holiday allthegirls. Look forward to hearing all about it when you return

allthegirls · 08/10/2004 07:07

Thanks Dubaimum, Won't be bringing any car seats with us so will give the safari a miss this time. My parents may be moving to Dubai in the near future so there may be other chances for us to do it.

Leaving tonight!! I can't wait!! I hope the strikes at Gatwick don't cause us too much hassle. We are getting there over an hour early as it is so we miss the rush hour traffic!

Just got to do the last minute sorting out and give the house a good clean before we leave it for 3 weeks. (I hate returning off a great holiday to the house untidy and beds not made etc)

Anyway will post again in 3 weeks or maybe sooner from Hong Kong!

HI Hedgehog,

Our stay at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel was fantastic!! Unbelievable actually!

We arrived in Dubai at 8am in the morning and even before you have collected your suitcase or even gone through passport control there was someone there from the hotel to meet us and take our bags. He whisked us through passport control and got our suitcase for us. We had to wait for about 15 mins for our car to pick us up. We were picked up in a mercedes s350 and when the driver had loaded our bags in he gave us each a bottle of water and offered us cold flannels of a silver tray. Very nice considering it was 8.30 am and already 32 degrees.

When we arrived at the hotel they took us straight to the premium leisure club reception where we were offered drinks and breakfast. They took our luggage straight up to the concierge. We were checked in as we sat on the terrace with fresh juice watching over the wild wadi. We were not meant to check in untill 2 pm so I was a bit worried about what we were giong to do for 5 hours but we were taken up to the concierge to get what we wanted out of our cases and where even given a bag to put the stuff we wanted to take with us to the pools. We were then given a locker free of charge which we could use for valuables. We were allowed to use all the facilities including the wild wadi. All towels are provided including extra large ones for the sun beds. You won't need to take any towels with you at all as you just get new ones if you want. We were offered a hotel mobile phone so they could ring us when a room became available. We got a room at about 1pm so a bit earlier than expected.

The rooms were amazing every time I walked into the room the view was breath taking!! A view of all the pool areas, the small marina, the beaches and of course the burj al arab!! The room were huge even with the camp bed up there was still a chair and desk, two chairs around a smaller table, a sofa and a coffee table. not to mnention the massive double bed and still room to swing a cat!! THe bathroom was the same! Huge with a big double walk in shower. All the toiletries you could possibly want including sun tan lotion. Factor 15 so if thats what you use I wouldn't bother buying any as it works fine! There was shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, body polish, bath gel, bath salts everything you could need really.

The service at the hotel was amazing you only had to walk to the pool and a member of staff would be there to take your towels off you and set up your sunbeds thew way you wanted.

The premium leisure club was great. It had computers to play games on and computers just for e mail access, play stations, toys, books and televisions. They did a buffet breakfast which was included, afternoon tea which was included and of course the canapes and cocktails. I spoke to one couple who hadn;t spent hardly any money on drinks and food as they ate the food on offer at thepremium leisure club. Afternoon tea was from 1.30 till 4 pm so that covered lunch with sandwiches and hot scones with jam and cream.

Anyway I better finish this tomorrow as my dh is waiting for the computer.

Hi. Just registered and posting my first message. Planning a trip to the JBH in April next year. I've been before but not for some time. I've heard lots about the construction work which is planned to go on until 2010. Can anyone let me know how noisy/intrusive the buidling work is and what can we see/hear of it from the JBH? Also, what are must do's before booking (ie, type of room etc)

Cheers

hedghog · 28/10/2004 12:22

allthegirls
Thank you for the detailed trip report. Amazing! We too land at 8am so I am reassured that we will not be stuck with nothing to do for half a day. The rooms sound amazing and the info on the afternoon tea is very helpful. As you say, lunch is covered! I can't wait now. Did you use the kids club in the end? Our kids are 9 and 6 so I am hoping that they will visit the club so dh and I can go shopping!!! Outside of the hotel did you feel the need to wear TShirts with sleeves or will vest tops be okay?
Thanks again. Glad you had an amazing time. How was Hong Kong?

sis · 28/10/2004 15:18

Now I feel bad for not going for the premier leisure club rooms! will we get anywhere near the fantastic service that allthegirls and her family got when we go in February?
