Would you be happy to take the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow late at night with the family. thinking of doing Glasgow and the Edinburgh royal military tattoo. Found somewhere that would suit in Glasgow so just wondering if this journey is doable

Pizza express is about a 10 mins walk from the castle and the staff when we went recently were lovely.

I'd say it's easy enough to do Castle and tattoo on same day. Stay local for dinner after castle and there isn't much walking.
PreBook taxi from after tattoo to train station

Castle has a nice cafe with good range of soups and salads for lunch

An off-peak return from Glasgow to Edinburgh is £13 per adult. You'll get two kids go free with that, so max £26 for a family of four. A taxi will be around £100 each way!

You can get a taxi right onto the concourse EXCEPT on a Saturday, and with your travel restrictions it looks like Saturday is out anyway...

So you could get a taxi up to the esplanade to take you to the castle, then come down the mile a bit for dinner, then push back up, then get a taxi to pick you up for the station - so that would be tight for the last train back. It is such a crush of people.

Reluctantly I think you'd have to stay or get transport back to Glw, if you can't commit to the early show on a Saturday.

Ouch!! I think the redcoat cafe might be more our thing from those links! Or we might just picnic and coffee and cake mid afternoon!!

I've done posh afternoon tea for a laugh before, the kids loved it but i think I'll stick to just the military tattoo and castle for challenging but fun experiences of the day.

So thanks to you lovely lot I'm thinking train Glasgow to Edinburgh, taxi to castle, walk to restaurant (or taxi if exhausted), taxi to tattoo and prebooked taxi to "home" Does that sound feasible?

Pizza Express is doable, especially as I've just checked they do pasta again!

Sounds like a good plan. Pizza Express is really handy and a more modern building so probably better accessibility. I reckon you'll be knackered and very glad you're falling into a taxi at the end of the day. Hope you all have a great time!
