Where would you go for a week in summer holiday with family of 4 for a budget of £1200?

Open to any ideas that I may not have thought of!
Looking at centerparcs Mon-Fri or a week at a Haven somewhere which are both in budget. Looked at Eurocamp and it’s too expensive...
Any other thoughts?? Children will be 13,11,7...

Can you go slightly off peak school hols? Say end of June perhaps?
Eurocamp are usually ok around that time though that price would get you accommodation only.
Look for an Airbnb or Villa rental for a week somewhere served by cheap flight airlines?

Hermanfromguesswho · 26/08/2018 20:00

Wish I could but I work in a school so no chance! Definitely has to be in school holidays I’m afraid

Are the Yelloh sites cheaper?
Camping at Eweleaze farm in Dorset - we’ve always had amazing weather. It has a private beach with swimming platforms, take wetsuits!
Air B and B somewhere less obvious? West wales or Scotland late August. Again wetsuits for the sea.
Flights will be tricky. Dover to Calais ferry and then drive and use municipal campsites or basic gite? We are driving to the Llandeouc Catalan region of the south next year, loads cheaper then the Riviera.

UK self catering or a Gite in France

user1486076969 · 26/08/2018 20:31

Pembrokeshire cottages

Firenze12 · 26/08/2018 20:56

Centre Parcs in Europe? Last week in August usually cheaper in belgium and Holland as children have gone back to school? Usually around 600-700 euros for Monday to Friday that week. You could then add on a few nights somewhere else?

wherehavealltheflowersgone · 26/08/2018 20:58

Google real family holidays. You could do a week, food included, and still have a chunk leftover

Fairylea · 26/08/2018 21:00

A cottage somewhere? Sykes cottages is a good website.

rosy71 · 26/08/2018 21:01

You could probably get the last week in August for less than that with eurocamp. Travel too, depending on how you travel.

Hermanfromguesswho · 26/08/2018 22:33

Some great ideas, thank you. I’m looking at cottages now.
Love the real family holidays website. Definitely a contender!!

Look at Landal in Belgium and the Netherlands

rosy71 · 26/08/2018 22:52

Duinrell, Holland. Last week of August, booking direct is £1000. Ferry would be about £250. Cheaper if you use Tesco vouchers.

rosy71 · 26/08/2018 22:53

Eurocamp in a tent would probably be between £600 and £800 at the end of August.

defineme · 26/08/2018 22:59

Friend is flying to Barcelona tomorrow £50 pp return flights with Ryan air from east Midlands so 10kg hand luggage only, and staying in an air bb 1 bed 4 person apartment with shared pool next to beach for 300, car hire 250, so £750 for a family of 4 for the week and the forecast is glorious xxx

tinytreefrog · 27/08/2018 06:49

my summer holiday this year (august), family of four, to corsica cost; £400 for flights (booked in janurary), £450 for accommodation (chalet on large campsite with good facilities) and £200 for car hire. All in for £1050, I was really pleased with that for august. Obviously food on top, but still an absolute bargain.

Hoppinggreen · 27/08/2018 19:33

We’ve just come back from Bavaria
Flights x4 Manchester - Nuremberg £350
Car hire 1 week £150 but public transport is excellent
2 bed Airbnb £400 (around 1 hour from Nuremberg )
Had an awesome time, loads of free stuff to do like lake/river swimming
Eating out wasn’t expensive but most places have a Lidl so you can eat in cheaply too

Hoppinggreen · 27/08/2018 19:34

Flights were Ryanair should have said and Airbnb was 2 bedROOM !

Milliways · 27/08/2018 19:45

Matthews France do some good offers at the end of August (when French children back at school). We have had some great holidays with them in the past if you don’t mind staying in their tiniest van- which we did as better than a tent, and all we could afford and the kids loved it.

user1486076969 · 27/08/2018 21:31

tinytreefrog - are you happy to share details of where you stayed?

ohnothanks · 27/08/2018 21:37

The Hockschwarzwald area of germany is amazing value. If you book (very cheap) self catering that offers the Hochschwarzwald Card you get loads and loads of free activities like Titisee (try not to laugh) Badeparadeis thrown in for zilch. Things like one round of Go-Ape type course each every day, cable car trips, all sorts. And a very easy drive from southern.England or cheap flights if booked in advance. You might squeeze 2 weeks out of £1200 if you took the feery or used clubcard points for the tunnel.

That sound good. Did you stay in hotels when not at Center Parcs?

somewhereovertherain · 29/08/2018 06:46

Yes a mixture of Novotel and holiday inn express.

Givemestrengthorgin · 29/08/2018 06:51

Check how much the lodges are at coylumbridge in aviemore. Aviemore is an amazing place for kids your age and if you go outwith Scottish school holidays it should hopefully be in budget.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 29/08/2018 06:55

We are currently in a villa in Greece. 2 bedrooms, pool, a 5 minute walk to a tiny beach. 5 no it's drive to a village with bigger beaches, restaurants etc. Villa is €800 for the week, flights were £100 each. We did have to hire a car on top which takes you over budget, but only just.
