Just that really.

Sadly going in school holidays. Is that the going rate? Is it likely to be even more expensive later on?

@P3onyPenny sorry I don't know - neither NY or school holidays factor in flight prices for me.

You can check by looking at the google flight graph I mentioned earlier. It'll show you where it peaks and troughs. But I wouldn't be surprised if £600 is the holiday price. Sometimes Newark or La Guardia can be cheaper than JFK (and nicer too, so I've heard)

OP, if you’re looking to do NY from the UK then Norwegian are currently having a sale. Or try Wow Air with a connection in Iceland, it’s usually really cheap. We’re elsewhere in the US (longer flight time then NY) and my cousin just booked flights out to see us for under £300 and his lay over is only just over an hour.

@P3onyPenny one thing I just thought of. Have you tried looking at deals that include car hire? A colleague has scored some bargain flights to the US by adding this on, as there is some background shenanigans with subsidies or something. He's even used the flight but not the car hire (as in, not even picked it up) and it all still worked out!

Looking at NY too! Cheapest flights seem to be on Primera - never flown them but their trustpilot reviews whiff! Luthansa, Norwegian & Austrian all seem to be offering budget end flights (no suitcases, no food) -think we will go that route & add on a suitcase at some point after booking.

I second the Jack's Flight Club emails. There's a free or paid subscription. Some good pricespotting on it.
