Looks appealing for October Half Term. Anyone been? Would you recommend it for CD aged 11 and 14? Any accommodation recommendations? Thank you!!

DH is German and we go there regular well as Bavaria
We love Frieberg in particular, and you can pop to France if you want to
If you fancy Bavaria we love Nuremberg
My DC are 9 and 13 and they love Germany

We spent a couple of days in the Forest either side of a week on Lake Constance earlier this month. My perception is that there were bags of things to do in the area and we would have liked to stay longer. We only got to do a bit of walking on a lovely trail and a trip to the Triberg waterfall, but would have liked to do the high ropes at Triberg too.

From looking at leaflets in the hotel, there were theme parks, waterparks, water sports, hiking trails - lots of stuff my 14 and 13 year olds would be up for.

I'm so glad you started this thread. I have been wondering about the Black Forest too. I'd really love a Lakes and mountains type holiday. Problem is, I don't fly well. We went to the South of France this year on the train. Is it doable by train? Or is that madness!!

Spud. We drove there this year. Very do-able.

This summer was the first time in years that we didn't go to the Black Forest for summer hols. It's LOVELY! So much to see and do and as a tourist you get discount cards for lots of attractions and free train & bus travel withing the Schwarzvald area - makes family days out v affordable compared to other places in Europe.

We stayed in the hills near Hornberg which is a nice little town and makes a good base. Sadly our landlady is no longer renting out as a holiday let or I'd be recommending it to you!

You could probably just about drive there in a day if you live nearish to Dover. We are in Kent but we always stopped overnight en route as the kids were younger than yours and we didn't fancy trying to drive 500ish miles in one day with little ones.
